I guess people were generally disappointed with It's final appearance in the mini-series. It's nearly impossible to bring 'the ultimate evil' or whatnot to the screen and not have that be so (see Lovecraft). In a book your imagination fills in what you fear, on screen it's concrete and right there and it's hard…

I doubt the movie (the first of two, especially now that the first one made a boatload of cash) featured an I Was a Teenage Werewolf-inspired beastie. That was the kind of movie King and I grew up watching on TV, one doubts 1% of kids today have seen it. Even so, I haven't…

Monster of the Day #1637

It's got to be difficult to work around an iconic image like this one (although to be fair I've seen neither version), but I think the 'friendly' clown in the sewer is creepier than the more overtly sinister one.

Out of T-Fest MotD, so here's a leftover Daimon Hellstrom cover. Obviously I like this one, this might be one of the only Johnny Blaze GR appearances I've never read. Still, I suspect the 'guest stars' are illusions or something (or robots in other books). I used to hate that sort of thing when…

So this year's wrap up T-Rex movie was the direct to video cheapie Future Wars, with its alien future slaves, space ships, three dollars cyborgs, empty cardboard boxes, that one hallway we see for ten minutes, a tough (sort of) nun who helps those on the streets (our first since Mary Tyler Moore!), a…

You will never go wrong with me having a rubber bat on a string in a movie, but a rubber bat on a string with a badly superimposed 'vampire' face? Mexico, you magnificent bastard.

Our second movie was Caltiki, already featured as Motd. However, it's now availalbe on a remastered Blu Ray, and as you'd expect from a Mario Bava movie, it looks gorgeous. I think this was the first time in my life I hadn't seen the movie via a beat up 16mm dub print. It was…

Monster of the Day #1632

As 12 years (including five or six years of two events per annum), T-Fest all but runs itself these days. Sandy opened this year's skein with this Japanese short film (about 50 minutes) featuring a young girl whose baby brother dies after an accident. She takes him to the mysterious unseen figure who lives…

I have to admit, I never got into Damien Hellstrom. I think he's kind of dull, I don't like the character/costume design, Marvel's demons are generally quite lame, it's version of Hell is tepid, 'soulfire' is far lamer than GR's 'hellfire,' etc. Still, that's a pretty good cover.
