Our second movie was Caltiki, already featured as Motd. However, it's now availalbe on a remastered Blu Ray, and as you'd expect from a Mario Bava movie, it looks gorgeous. I think this was the first time in my life I hadn't seen the movie via a beat up 16mm dub print. It was…

As 12 years (including five or six years of two events per annum), T-Fest all but runs itself these days. Sandy opened this year's skein with this Japanese short film (about 50 minutes) featuring a young girl whose baby brother dies after an accident. She takes him to the mysterious unseen figure who lives…

I have to admit, I never got into Damien Hellstrom. I think he's kind of dull, I don't like the character/costume design, Marvel's demons are generally quite lame, it's version of Hell is tepid, 'soulfire' is far lamer than GR's 'hellfire,' etc. Still, that's a pretty good cover.

This will be a short week for MotD (just as next week will start late, probably on Wednesday) because of the do in Texas. So I might as well stick with where we've been lately. I knew Ghost Rider started in the pages of Marvel Spotlight, one of several anthology books (Marvel Premiere, etc.)…

Monster fight and a pretty girl. Not a lot of subtlety there, but hey, the execution. Werewolf by Night and Man-Things each have an omnibus (do complete runs in one volume sell better?), while Ghost Rider and Luke Cage don't as of yet. Marvel's also been rolling out their '70s kung fu titles (there…

I hope everyone had a great weekend. T-Fest is a week from next Saturday, so I'll see some of you in Houston/Dallas in less than two weeks. Mike Ploog was, except for Gene Colan, probably Marvel's big horror artist. He was sort of their Bernie Wrightson, I guess. Ploog worked on Werewolf By Night…

Monster of the Day #1624

Pretty spiffy. I'm a little surprised this doesn't have one of those "Because You Demanded It!" blurbs. Looking at Marvel's sales today, I don't think "Because You Demanded It!" is much of a factor for them. Dammit, Dracula never fought Ghost Rider. A Gene Colan-drawn Ghost Rider battle would have been fantastic. I Demand…
