Monster of the Day #742

Here’s a great cover, along with the original painted art. The latter image is WAY too small, however. Click here for the art in a much better, more appropriate size. Once you’re on the page, click again on the art to blow it up even larger. The painting was found on this phenomenal site, which I just stumbled across this morning. It’s a feast for MoD fans.

Beware, the Blob! Nothing like a mass of faceless, amorphous tissue to spell terror.

  • Gamera977

Not sure how effective shooting a blob, even with a sub-machine would be. Too bad the police didn’t bring a flamethrower.

  • Ken_Begg

It’s true, Mexican police are better prepared for that sort of thing.

  • bgbear_rnh

He’s mercy killing people and animals trapped in the blob. Much better than slowly being digested.

  • Eric Hinkle

“But those last three guys you shot weren’t even trapped, chief!”

“… They were about to be trapped.”

  • Gamera977

BTW: was checking out the Monster Brains website you linked over lunch.

Ken Begg is the Kwisatz Haderach of monster lore!!!

  • Flangepart

I must not Rant. Ranting is the brain killer- ranting is the little death that brings total aggrivation.

  • Gamera977

I’m not sure if it’s more disturbing that I’m slow enough it took me this long to get the reference or that I’m geeky enough that I got it at all.

  • Rock Baker

Hey! I think I read this one! If memory serves, the cover was a lot more exciting than the story itself.

  • Rock Baker

The only thing that hurts that climax is the rather toy-like nature of the tanks. Otherwise it’s gangbusters!

  • Ken_Begg

Actually, I was thinking of the end of The Brainiac, hence the cops reference.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, about lunchtime I was thinking – ‘didn’t Ken review a movie where a warlock is burned at the stake and comes back as a brain-eating vampire critter that gets burned down by the Mexican police?’ Took me an hour or so later to think of the title.

Guess they need the flamethrower to deal with all those Aztec mummies and Chupicabras…

  • Rock Baker

Well, the cover has a blob monster. CALTIKI attacked Mexico and was fought off with flamethrowers….. I think my confusion is somewhat understandable.
