This Week on DVD (03/27/07)

Really not a lot this week. The TV set of the week is definitely The Shield S5.  We’re in a real golden age of television right now, and I’d put The Shield up as one of the three best shows on TV, along with Battlestar Galactica and Deadwood.  Great stuff.

Also out this week, 7th Heaven S4; Addams Family Vol. 2; The Best of the Flatt & Scruggs TV Show Vols. 1 & 2; Brady Bunch The Complete Series; Family Affair S3; Jeffersons S6; and Mary Hartman Mary Hartman Vol. 1.

Hundra is a cheesy 1983 Euro Woman Warrior movie, with all the attendant nudity and violence the ’80s specialized in.  The disc includes a commentary with the director and actress Laurene Landon, who played the titular lead.  Bonus points:  Morricone did the score.

Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes is a recent DTV sequel to the nifty Lance Henriksen horror pic.

School for Scoundrels  This the 1960 Brit comedy,  with a fantastic cast including Alastair Simms, Dennis Price and (of course) Terry-Thomas.  I’ve never seen this, so I’m kind of excited.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Flatt and Scruggs? What the hell was that? Was it like The Naked Trucker and T-Bones?

  • Ken HPoJ

Bluegrass guys. They did the Beverly Hillbillies theme.

  • The Rev. D.D.

So I’m guessing it was more a variety show type of thing.
That’s one of the better TV themes, so I guess the show couldn’t be all bad…
