Portage Alert: Kung Fu bill…

My friends are skipping their normal monthly monster bill at the Portage Theater this month (although because they are planning a huge weekend long comic book / movie weekend in June). That doesn’t mean there isn’t any upcoming genre movie goodness happening though.

Friday, June 1st, The Chicago Cinema Society hosts a double bill of (yay!) Master of the Flying Guillotine and Swords of the White Lotus, both showing (double yay) on 35mm film prints. The show includes a discussion with Shaolin Archive director Dan Halsted (the group supplying the prints), who will discuss their collection, preservation efforts and their goal to increase cultural awareness of Kung Fu cinema in America, as well as live Kung Fu demonstrations from local Wushu schools!

There’s also a free showing of E.T. at 7:30 on May 26th.

  • God I love Master of the Flying Guillotine.  Between the Flying Guillotine and the dude with the stretching arms…  Just good stuff.

  • The Rev.

We screened MotFG at this year’s T(ween)-Fest.  It was a real crowd pleaser.
