Don’t worry, Cutesie, I’m not sure what to make of it either…

    What happened?

  • I hope to write *snort* short post on it later today.

  • Mr. Rational

So, Cutesie finally heard about Theo Epstein, huh?

Well, don’t worry, lil’ guy.  That nasty ol’ hope will be gone by next June.

    Sigh…

Looks like Cutesie figures if Epstein’s lightning will strike twice, it will probably hit him both times.

Considering we’re talking about the Cubs here I have to say I’m seeing a replay of Fred Silverman on NBC the baseball version.

  • Mr. R — I think all (pardon the expression) rational Cubs fans know that we’re going to suck again next year. Indeed, I’m actually hoping they don’t go after a marquee player like Prince Fielder, because I want Epstein and Ricketts and to focus on completely rebuilding the team for the long-run, and anything done for the short term handicaps that effort.

That said, I heard a guy on sports radio yesterday wondering why people thought things would change when the “franchise” hadn’t done anything for a hundred years. And the obvious answer is, because THIS franchise hasn’t been around for a hundred years, it’s been around for a week. It’s not just getting a top notch exec in Epstein, or even in the fact that he’s already assembling an equally impressive team underneath him. It’s in at the same time having an actual team owner with an actual plan to build the franchise into a year in year out competitor. We’ve never had that, not in my lifetime. Someone who plans to invest heavily in the future rather than just sticking in pieces year after year and hoping something clicks.

So I fully expect next year to suck. But I’m also hoping that four or five years down the line, this will be the kind of organization we have always wanted but never had. And I don’t think I’m completely drinking the koolaid in thinking this may happen.

Poor Cutesie. His life oscillates endlessly between the terror of the unknown and the misery of knowledge.

And thus are sports a metaphor for live in sum.

Okay, the comments are back, but why can’t I show/hide the menu? The only way I can check out posts now is to go through them one at a time. Is it like that for everybody? Or is it due to this laptop I’m having to use?

  • Marsden

    It’s me, too.

I can’t either.  I just go to the Blog and just open up each posting I want to check out.  Which is how I’ve always done it.

Only now do I learn there was a better way!

  • Ericb

    Me too

Have you tried clicking on “Latest Review” and so forth, above the current entries on the front page?

  • Anonymous

Sorry, guys, I had to disable that upper menu for security reasons. (Outdated Java leaves holes.) You can always get a traditional blog view by clicking the word “Blog” on the homepage, though that naturally restricts you to the bloggy posts … reviews and nuggets live in their respective homes.

I’ve been pondering a re-design. What navigation/features would you like to see?

  • Anonymous

Hm.  Looks like you’ve got an RSS feed… it would be nice if the “Last 10 Entries” thing for the Nuggets and Reviews actually showed the last 10 reviews or nuggets, as opposed to just the beginning of the alphabetical list.  Actually, if those lists could just default to showing them in chronological order, that would be really nice.

    Your wish came true.
