Monster of the Day #345

“OK, and now I’m going to do Paul Lynde…”

An under-appreciated little series, actually. Along with the Maniac Cop movies, one of the few skeins of films where I liked each chapter.

Really? I’ve only seen the first (now on blue ray) and have always heard that the others aren’t anywhere near as good. I’ll have to check them out.

  • The Rev.

    Is this Mimic?

Even though they feature giant man-eating bugs, I’ve not seen any of them. One of the many great mysteries of life.

  • BC — Well, obviously they’re pretty low-budget, direct to video affairs. They work within their limits, though, and take the series into interesting places. Let us know what you think after you see them.

  • The others are not as good as the first (which wasn’t that great either, for a Del Toro film), but they still had some good points. They didn’t make the horrible mistakes you’d expect in a Hollywood sequel, but instead explored the concept in interesting, and different, ways.

If you liked the first you’d like the other two.

Well, they’re only available on Netflix via streaming, which is due to expire on my account in a few days. (Netflix — idiots, or cretins?) I’ll see if I can’t get them in…

MIMIC 2 was on tv a couple of days ago. I haven’t seen MIMIC 3, but have read that its basically a remake of REAR WINDOW with a giant cockroach in the Raymond Burr role.

Now THAT’S an interesting image. I have this lovely view of Perry Mason eating his clients.

  • I have seen MIMIC 3 and that’s not a bad description.
