Monster of the Day #232

Same movie as yesterday, actually.

Just a tentacle? What does the rest of it look like, or is it part of yesterday’s MoD?

  • fish eye no miko

@Ericb: It’s part of a tree, actually. They turn mutant at night (yeah… just go with it) and attack people.

  • fish eye no miko

Speaking of the killer mutant trees in this movie:
At the end of the film, they celebrate the death of the monster (c’mon, that’s not really a spoiler), but wouldn’t the killer mutant trees (and moths and crabs, etc.) still be around? It’s not like they… de-radiated the island or whatever.
/Come and see my little monster!

I guess I have seen this one under Tiki Island title, lots of side stuff going on. Also, that is Dash Riprock or one of those Beverly Hillbilly movie star types always drooling over Ellie Mae.

  • Ericb

I think I need to see this movie. What’s the title?

  • roger h

Go for the “Danger on Tiki Island” Cinematic Titanic version of the film.

FYI: John Ashley, the main dude in this, was also the main dude in Attack of the The Eye Creatures.

Brides of Blood (1968 I think the year was, maybe 67), the bridge between 50s monster movies and late 60s/early 70s sleazey drive-in fare. Not bad, really, for what it is.

John Ashley may’ve played Dash Riprock in one or two episodes, but I’m not sure. During the 60s, he was most known for the AIP beach movies. In most of them he played Frankie and Dee-Dee’s friend Johnny. I understand he got an upswing later in life, becoming a successful producer in the 80s before his death. The A-Team is supposed to be one of his productions. Amid his 50s work, I recommend the 1960 vehicle High School Ceasar, its great stuff!

I remember very well in high school trying to model myself into a John Ashley type. He, Jack Webb, and Sean Connery’s 007 were the guages I tried to achieve.

yes, it looks like Ashley played three parts on BH but, not Dash Riprock. Ashely, like Sharon Tate, was a regular pretty face. Larry Pennell played Dash and it looks like he is still in the acting biz.

I would like to see Eye Creatures again although I can’t get past the night shirt Ashley’s friend wears. Shudder.

  • Rock Baker

So skip Eye Creatures and go with Invasion of the Saucer Men. Same movie, only 100,000 times better.

And thanks for the info! While not sure he’d played Dash, I was reasonably sure he’d been on the show.
