Monster of the Day #179

Rock knows the way to my heart, as evidenced by this still he sent me. This appears to be from a five-hour 1919 (!) serial called Trail of the Octopus. I assume the scene is symbolic, like the shots in one of the versions of The Gorilla featuring (several months before King Kong came out in 1931) symbolic shots of a massive gorilla moving through a miniature city.

I can think of a whole bunch of replies to this, none of which are safe for work…

  • Ericb

    It looks like a squidopus.

  • Ericb

    Or a Bishopopus.

I’d never heard of this until I ran across this still. My first thought was that Sh! The Octopus! might’ve been a remake of this earlier silent.

Is there ANYTHING as heart-warming as a big rubber octopus? I think not.

The Octopus in the serial is probably a Crime Lord (“His tentacles are everywhere ! ) and the scene is symbolic.

See? You wasted your tentacoo wape comment on the shark!

And this is the last place I expected to be reminded of Ghastly. Thanks Fish Eye.

  • Dearly beloved, we are gathered here this day to witness the union of these two in holy matrimony.

  • Rock Baker

One of these days, I’m going to have to make myself a big rubber octopus. No clue where I’d keep it, but I’ve wanted one since I was ten (at least).

  • Petoht

Rock, clearly the answer is to make it gigantic and then put it on your roof.

Yeah, dangit! If I had known this was coming up [snerk], I’d’ve saved it.

“And this is the last place I expected to be reminded of Ghastly. Thanks Fish Eye.”

    Anytime. (-:
