Monster of the Day #173

Ah, they’re so cute at that age!

  • Ericb

So where was Mrs. King during all this?

  • Ericb

    oops, Mrs. Kong

Why can’t they all just learn to get along?

  • John Campbell

It’s a well known fact that someone will end up being used for fashion accessories. Thus it’s always a fight to the death when a fur bearing animal and a lizard meet.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Today I am *internet not responding* years old. Please give generously to the ‘Keep John Hanna Rolling In Cash Foundation’. No donation is too large, operators are standing by.

    “All kaiju unite!”

“death to the bald smooth-skinned devils!”

    “Burt I. Gordon first!”

  • Happy B-Day, John!

  • Gamera

    Happy Birthday John!

Sorry, short on money so I’ll give you some free advice instead:

‘Never eat anything larger than your own head…’

Wish I had a statue like that to put out in my front yard. I could decorate it with lights for Christmas!

  • Rock Baker

Happy Birthday! (But what’s this “cash” you speak of? Oh! That green stuff with the nice artowrk on it! Yeah, I’ve seen that stuff before! In fact, I was once holding about 90 dollars in my hands! Had to give it back, but I enjoyed holding it!)

While I’ve seen similar shots, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this photo before. Keep ’em coming, Ken!

So I guess Mechanikong, Lady-Kong, Queen Kong, Goliathon, and a half dozen others are bound to turn up soon?

If he’s SON OF KONG, who was his mother – Fay Wraye ?

Don’t ask me! I still haven’t figured out where Gojira/Godzilla’s son Minya came from. Was Mothra his mother?

Holding out for my favorite giant ape: ‘Mighty Joe Young!’ I don’t think he’s been MotD yet.

  • Rock Baker

I think Godzilla adopted Minya, rather than have any direct influence on his coming to be. Prehistoric animals are springing to life all the time in Toho’s universe, and we’ve had multiples of Angillas, Gorosaurus, Manda, Speiga, etc, etc. I think Minya was just another Godzilla that conditions brought into the world, and Godzilla, being the only other member of the species, took the tyke under his wing. Seems I’ve heard that stated as Toho’s official position. (But then, Harou Nakajima was once quoted as believing that the first Godzilla was male, and Gigantis was a female. If he’s right, the question is who the father might be!)

As for Kong Jr., let’s just say there were other giant apes on the island. Jr. may’ve been the last of the family, born about the time Kong was shipped to New York. Or, maybe giant apes grow at a slower rate than other animals, and Jr. was born a long time ago. Mrs. Kong might’ve died shortly after that, which began Kong’s lonely years. Jr. was probably off by himself when Denham captured his old man. (Minya was roughly the same in 1999 as he was in 1967, so monsters may age very slowly.)

    Happy birthday, John!

  • Gamera

Thanks Rock, your explanation works for me!

MIGHTY JOE YOUNG is the only member of the species to manage a happy ending, if a life of celibacy can be considered such.
