TCM This Weekend…

All times Central Standard.  Adjust accordingly.

Friday 12th
1:15 AM Galaxy of Terror Infamous Corman (one of three, think) knock-off of Alien.  This is the one with Erin Moran.
2:45 They Came From Beyond Space

Saturday 13th
5:00 AM Action in the North Atlantic Cool WWII flick about the Merchant Marine, starring Bogart, Raymond Massey and the inevitable Alan Hale.
12:00 Noon The Jungle Book The version starring Jungle Hell‘s Sabu.
2:00 PM The Blob The real one, of course.
3:45 Around the World in 80 Days Clunky, but fun. One of my favorite books as a kid.
7:00 PM The Best Years of Our Lives Still perhaps the best film about war veterans attempting to return and readjust to civilian life. A classic.

Sunday 14th
1:00 PM The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes One of the Kurt Russell Disney flicks.
2:45 The Lady Eve Classic screwball romance starring Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck.
7:00 Night Tide Somber maybe-fantasy film about a sailor (Dennis Hopper) who falls in love with a maybe-mermaid.
1:00 AM Rashomon I read Roger Ebert’s review of this, and he got the whole thing completely wrong.

I must have seen Galaxy Terror on cable once, I seem to recall Joanie getting killed in some horrendous way.

    Going on Tivo!

They’re showing Octaman on American Life Network this evening at 7.

No, Ken, both you AND Ebert are wrong about Rashomon. I’m totally right, though!

“They Came From Beyond Space” had some potential as a sub-Quatermass type film.

  • The Rev.

ALN has been playing Octaman, Yongary, and Gor on a rotation on Friday nights the past month or so. They need to expand with more crap!

for the record, I just want to say, like many of you of the right age, I lusted in my heart for the young Miss Cunningham but, then something happened.

The name of the beast was C-a-c-h-i.

  • BeckoningChasm

Was that how it was spelled? I thought it was Ciachi or Chachi or something.

  • Not-So-Great Cthulhu

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Galaxy of Terror, but I didn’t think it was really an Alien knockoff. Of course, all I remember is that the crew were being killed off by their own fears and a woman was molested to death by a giant worm. (And in what universe can it be considered a “classic”?)

  • roger h

who the hell knows how those Ities spell things?

Off-topic for sure, but I just took a look at the “Sabu” theme and I’m kind of surprised it makes no use of elephants whatsoever.
