Monster of the Day #127

I love monsters.

  • Ericb

    Particularly ones who wear sneakers.

  • TongoRad

…and are willing to sit for a manicure/hairdo makeover.

  • Tork_110

Whenever I think of Peter Lorre, I think of the line “‘Being watched’, he says.”
At the end of the cartoon, the twist is that *we* are the monsters.
• The Rev.

I love this cartoon. I used to have a shirt with the monster here on it, along with one that had Marvin the Martian.

This guy was truly inspired. Giant monster covered in red hair and wearing sneakers. What’s not to love?

  • TongoRad

FWIW, I just verified this on Wikipedia- this fellow has been called by two names: ‘Rudolph’ in the 1950s (that’s the one I was trying to remember), and ‘Gossamer’ in the 1980s.

  • John Campbell

Ken – you continue to demonstrate why you are the mastah here!

    Love this one!!

Tongo – wow I’d only ever heard him referred to as Gossamer. I guess with the red fur it’s easy to see where Rudolph comes in.

I think Gossamer is so much more fitting.

  • BeckoningChasm

This guy really creeped me out as a kid. I think it’s the lack of a visible mouth. What’s he going to DO with you?

  • It’s a very fanciful name for a monster, but in his heart, he was never a monster anyway.

  • I wonder what animator back then deciced to put the monster in basketball shoes.

  • Rock Baker

    Classic stuff!

Good thing the Monster didn’t trade in for some PF Flyers (with the new ‘action wedge’)! Then Bugs wouldn’t have stood a chance!

  • fish eye no miko

So, having re-re-re-disposed of the monster, exit our hero, stage left!

    “[gasp]PEOPLE!!”

    Oh, man… Awesome choice, Ken!

  • The Rev.

“Heh. Mechanical.” *smooch* “Well….so it’s mechanical!”

BC: His mouth is just hidden by all the fur. Occasionally you notice it as a smile or frown, but he does talk at the end of the original, and his mouth is quite visible. The newer ones, maybe not so much; I haven’t seen those in a while.

  • Gristle McThornbody

My favorite Bugs’ episode ever. Great choice, Ken.

  • I in addition to my guys were reading through the good items located on your site then all of a sudden got an awful feeling I had not expressed respect to the site owner for those tips. These guys appeared to be absolutely excited to read through them and already have honestly been having fun with these things. Appreciate your actually being considerably kind and then for deciding upon certain perfect subjects millions of individuals are really wanting to be aware of. My very own honest regret for not expressing gratitude to you sooner.
