Star Crash!

So many movies are out on DVD now that you don’t get a lot of huge releases anymore.  However, this definitely qualifies as exciting news:

One of the most eagerly awaited inter-galactic science-fiction adventures, released by Roger Corman’s New World Pictures, will finally be made available for the first time to the home entertainment shelves as StarCrash, directed by Luigi Cozzi, will debut September 14, 2010 on 2-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD from Shout! Factory, in association with New Horizons Picture Corporation. An adventure like no other, the StarCrash 2-Disc Special Edition contains anamorphic widescreen presentation of the movie with DTS HD 5.1 surround sound (Blu-ray), a reversible cover featuring vintage art for original movie posters and a payload of bonus content including all-new interviews and commentaries with cast and crew, rare behind-the-scenes footage and much more! A must-have for loyal fans of Roger Corman and Luigi Cozzi, science fiction enthusiasts and collectors, StarCrash 2-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD mark the latest installments from the popular ROGER CORMAN’S CULT CLASSICS home entertainment series from Shout! Factory. Each Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD is sold separately. Blu-ray is priced to own at $26.97; and DVD is available at $19.93.

That’s right, you’ll even be able to get it on Blu Ray!  Notes on the set’s copious extras at the link above.  And here’s a link to my review of the movie.

Well, there’s more money I will have to spend…but happily, because I get to see a bad movie classic at last.

And also drool at Caroline Munroe because SWEET JESUS that woman is gorgeous.

  • BeckoningChasm

Okay, I will probably buy this, but really, “fans of Luigi Cozzi”? That just sounds sad to me, like being a fan of Barney or something.

  • Or a Cub fan.

  • Solid Jake

I was initially floored by this news until I realized that I had confused Star Crash with Snow Crash.

  • But then, so many people have.

  • Rock Baker

I’m looking forward to seeing it, since it looks like one of the better Star Wars ripoffs. Yes, I know the film fell victim to a Jabootu review, but it looks like there’s enough stuff in the film to keep it entertaining on its own merits -the cheif one being Caroline Munroe I must admit.

One that I did see was Star Odyssey. Now THAT one was a bad movie! By ANY standard!

  • BeckoningChasm

I’ve never seen it, but am pretty sure Star Crash is worth seeing, despite Luigi Cozzi. I don’t know how one man can take such promising ideas and make so many films that aren’t even fun to mock. Like “Alien Contamination,” boy that one just aged me.

  • Rock Baker

It’s all relative. I saw Alien Contamination (the one with the exploding eggs, right?) as part of a multi-pack of cheapies. After sitting through Werewolf Woman, Panic, and Star Odyssey, Alien Contamination was something of a treat. At the very least it was a real movie with production values missing from some of the others I’d recently seen. Oh, and the exploding rat. For some reason I found that to be hysterical. Lest I sound too fond of the film, however, let me state without reservation that it was painfully slow in the middle and anti-climactic. Like I said, its relative.

Where else can we see glass windows in a spaceship?

Oh wait. We can see them. Star Trek Generations…….

  • BeckoningChasm

Well, yeah, anything slightly decent will seem a whole lot better when surrounded by god-awful dreck. The only thing I liked about Alien Contamination was the sound the eggs made. They sounded like they were practicing the saxophone.

  • zombiewhacker

When “Starcrash” was first released in US theaters, I saw it at a drive-in.

    On a double bill.

    With “Star Wars.”

    Just thought I’d mention that.

  • MatthewF

Starcrash is…horrible and cheap and awful. yes some of it is funny but a lot of it is just boring. That this gets a 2 dvd release tells us something is wrong with the universe.

  • The Rev.

Well, that and the lack of release for The Green Slime.

AND the fact that I’m not a multi-billionaire with control over all aspects of your lives – I mean COUGH that I’m so tired all the time.
