Wow, an actual third new movie this year I’ll go see in a theater…

  • Not-So-Great Cthulhu

Okay, color me intrigued. Now if someone can explain to me why a movie that looks entertaining seems to get buried.

Harry Brown premiered last year at a few film festivals before a general release in the UK in November. It’s been shown twice in the US, at film festivals, and will only get a limited release at the end of this month. But no general release after that (in the US, at least).

And yet a movie like Saw VII (yes, 7) will be getting a general release here. Oy.

  • Mr. Rational

This seems like the London-based love child of Death Wish and Gran Torino. Color me intrigued. And with Michael Caine, one of the greatest actors still working…yeah. If it’s in my area, I’ll be in a seat.

Just out of curiosity, Ken, what were/are the first two movies?

  • Mr. Rational

Hmm. Probably should have read Cthulhu’s comment before I used the exact same phrase… :)

  • Iron Man II and Piranha (assuming that does actually hit theaters). I may see others–although probably not many–but those are the ones I’ll definitely make an effort to see.

  • Marsden

What do you think about Whiplash in Iron Man 2, Ken? I want to see it, but when I first saw the poster I thought the guy was holding 2 flashlights. I hope it looks better on film.

  • Well, the problem is that Iron Man doesn’t have a lot of super great villains. We’ll see. I mean, the first film was pretty good, so they’ve earned a bit of trust.

  • Oh yes… I will see this. Am I blue-skying, or could you not imagine “Harry Brown” becoming a label for old Brits that show that they ain’t gonna take it anymore?

  • Considering how popular Gran Torino was (it was Eastwood’s biggest box office hit, albeit not adjusted for inflation), you’d think they’d take a better shot with this. Maybe the poor results for Brave One and Death Sentence, two films with (arguably) bigger stars, have something to do with it. Still, I loves me some Michael Caine.

  • Marsden

I think with The Mandarin, AIM, Modok, Justin Hammer, and possibly Hydra with a Shield crossover are plenty enough to keep them busy. But I see your point, there’s no Green Goblin or Magneto there. I wonder who the Avengers will be up against, maybe the Masters of Evil? I really doubt they’re going to remake the whole Loki accidentally brought them together storyline.

  • See, to me the Loki plot makes complete sense, since he’ll already have been introduced in the Thor movie. There’s going to be so much going on there with all those characters that they won’t have time to be bringing in new ones (I hope). Especially because you’ve got to introduce Cap to the modern world in this film. Also, it sets up a fight between the Hulk and the other Avengers, so there’s that.
