I clean forgot that between Bloodbeast and Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires I showed that atrocious (cough, cough) “Derek Flint” telemovie Dead on Target. I think it’s the last thing I reviewed on the site. The years haven’t been any kinder to it; it’s terrible.
After 7 Golden Vampires I showed The Pink Panther Strikes Again, which to be fair does have a death ray and a mad scientist (played by Herbert Lom, no less). I still think the second Clouseau film, A Shot in the Dark, is the best and even funniest of the series. In terms of sheer belly laughs, though, the title definitely goes to Strike Again. It’s a classic.
After our traditional offsite breakfast break, we returned to Chad R’s choice, Tough Guys Don’t Dance. Is it any good you ask? OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD. “Nuff said. It’s a hilarious watch, and Wings Hauser is given a metric ton of scenery to chew. It’s essential viewing just for him.
Then we finally got back to monsters 1942’s obscure Universal Old Dark House flick The Night Monster. It’s ridiculous in all the right ways. Why so unknown, then? It permanently turned the faithful against it by top billing Bela Lugosi, only to provide him with a small role that might as well have given him a RED HERRING hat to wear. Also stars Lionel Atwill and Ralph Morgan. It’s fun.
