It was time for something more linear after the incomprehensible Bloodbeat, so the Rev provided the beloved Hammer / Shaw Brothers co-production The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. This had vampires, Chinese vampires (not hopping ones, alas), boobs, tons of crazy kung fu and Peter Cushing in his last time playing Van Helsing. For whatever reason they failed to blackmail Christopher Lee for the 80th time to return as the (very briefly seen) Dracula, so they substituted John Forbes-Robertson. He attempts to suggest Lee very hard, and fails at it even harder.
I was writing way back in high school about how Hammer’s Dracula was diminished with every sequel, since he’d get resurrected and the killed again within, at best, a few weeks. Here he lasts about five minutes (if that) and dies after clumsily impaling himself on a spear. How are the mighty fallen. Still a great movie, though.
