Monster of the Day #3823

Beckoning Chasm mentioned this the other day, it’s the post-apocalyptic Love and Monsters (2021). This is the good CGI I was referring to earlier. Considering how bad the CGI in films made by Disney and Warner’s for hundreds of millions of dollars can occasionally be, the level CGI here is pretty impressive. Admittedly, a $30 million budget isn’t chopped liver, but still. Sadly, the film came out at the height of COVID, and thus never remotely made it’s money back.

The movie isn’t perfect by any means. It’s too long for one, being 109 minutes. That’s not a terrible length, but again, FILMS SHOULD BE 90 MINUTES OR LESS UNLESS THERE’S A REAL REASON FOR THEM NOT TO BE. Even so, “isn’t perfect” still leaves a lot of ground for “pretty good.” For example, this has both a giant crab monster AND a giant frog monster, so you know I like that. Like it a lot. I couple of walking skeletons and I’d have being raving about this one from day one.

This is another recent movie you can’t (currently) stream anywhere, although you can rent it from Amazon Prime. Which, yes, is streaming but you know what I mean. It’s not currently available on any service for “free.” This is why physical media will never die, unless they just stop releasing films that way.
