Pre-order next MST3K set for 38% off…

The 15th (!) set features two Joels and two Mikes; The Robot Vs. The Aztec Mummy, The Girl In Lovers Lane, Zombie Nightmare, and Racket Girls. The set is due on July 7th. The list price is $60, Amazon is selling it for $39. One of the extras is an interview with Jon Mikl Thor (!), who is, of course, the man behind the entirely awesome old Jabootu favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare.

When will we get the one with that werewolf movie from the 80’s? I think it had an Estevez in it.

  • That was the ingeniously titled Werewolf, and it was included in the recent 20th Anniversary set. The special edition of the set, with a Crow figure, is already sold out, although you can find used copies on Amazon and eBay and such at the moment. The regular is available at Amazon.

    I really want Robot Holocaust.

Yeah, Jon Mikl Thor is the title zombie in Zombie Nightmare; a guy who get resurrected to go after the teens who killed him.

BTW, Robot Vs. the Aztec Mummy is a Season One episode. At one time, they said they’d never release those (they didn’t think they were very good), but there’s been a few put out, by both Rhino and the new guys… Frankly, I’m hoping we’ll get Robot Holocaust and/or Robot Monster in the not-too-distant future. I still think the chances of the KTMAs coming out are incredibly slim. Which is too bad, I’ve seen some that are pretty good. I really liked Phase IV and Superdome, for example. Cosmic Princess (two episodes of the old Space 1999 series) is pretty good, too.

Ericb said: “I really want Robot Holocaust.”

“Did she just say, ‘Stuffed One’?”

  • Ah, I remember the early days of the site when everything I reviewed was of the magnitude of Robot Holocaust.

    Good times.

Fish eye–when they talk about not releasing the first season, I think they mean the VERY first–the one on KTMA. Before they got on Comedy Central and anyone outside of Minnesota had heard of it.

No, they mean (or meant, anyway) Season One. Comedy Central aired a few of the Season One episodes (The Crawling Hand, for example), and BBI asked them to stop.

I’ve seen some of the KTMA ones on Youtube.

It’s like listening to a band’s demo tape. The differences are staggering.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Never heard that. Maybe that had something to do with J. Elvis Weinstein leaving the show?

They released a couple of the first season ones on VHS back in the day. *shrugs*

I have seen one KTMA episode, off a third- or fourth-generation tape. And it is indeed quite a difference.

It’s true that at one time (like, I don’t know, ten-plus years ago) Best Brains said “we don’t think Season 1 was our best work, and we’d be happy for it not be available” — but since that time, they’ve no doubt heard considerable feedback from fans that they don’t care about the “lesser quality” (which is only partially true, any way), they want to see them all. It’s possible some fans have never seen the S1 stuff other than the couple of DVD episodes currently available. BBI may well still think that it’s not their best work, but they must certainly also know now that the market is there, which they may not have been certain of at the time that the original statement was made.

There’s a very good interview over on Satellite news with the guy from Shout! overseeing the new DVDs and he states his intentions for new DVD releases pretty clearly — well worth reading: http://www.mst3kinfo.com/satnews/visit/jordan.html
