Top Ten Monsters of All Time video…

FoJ Sandy Petersen sent me this link. There are a lot of these on YouTube, but this one is pretty good. (Not my list, obviously, but then I’m not sure how many people’s list would exactly match anyone else’s.)
Certainly I can’t entirely agree with any such list that doesn’t include the giant ants of Them!, much less no giant bugs whatsoever.

As he noted to me, it’s worth watching until the end, especially for fans of this site.

Warning: Occasional profanity.

There seems to be some bug on youtube. Every embedded youtube video I’ve tried today shows the same Top Models video. At first I thought this was a joke until I saw it on some other sites. I doubt everyone has suddenly becomed enamoured of America’s Next Top Model.

Or it could just be my computer. Usually I can’t play embedded videos. Maybe youtube has some defalt video that plays for people who don’t have the proper Flash software instead of the usual blank screen that we usually get.

Frankly, I think Godzilla belongs above King Kong.

I also agree that at least one of the giant bug movies should be on here…

I’ve seen Godzilla: Final Wars, and watching the big G pwn Deanzilla was pretty sweet. Though I’m still wondering why the fight was in Sydney (you can see the famous Sydney Opera House in that clip) instead of, say, New York, or even Tokyo.

BTW, I saw a MiSTing of Giant Claw on You Tube; it was pretty funny. When we first see the titular monster, it’s not very distinct, prompting the MiSTers to sing along with the music, “The Giant BLUR!”

Oh! One last thing: Ken, this article is titled “10 Ten Movie Monsters of All Time” video. I think you meant “Top Ten…”?

  • Thanks!

    No prob, Ken! ^_^

Oh, hey… are you going to be doing any more of those “Movies of [year]” posts? I really liked those. ^_^

    Fun, but that’s not a battleship at 6:52; I think it’s a destroyer.

  • Yeah, I kind of lost track of those Fish Eye, but was planning to start them up again. I just need to figure out where I stopped.

  • Great video. Beast From 20,000 Fathoms might make a good warm-up for T-Fest.

Small nitpick: That’s not a battleship, it’s a guided missile destroyer. (Charles F. Adams class)

Ken said: “Yeah, I kind of lost track of those Fish Eye, but was planning to start them up again. I just need to figure out where I stopped.”

The most recent one I see is from Dec. 18th, 2008; which covered 1984.

I love James Rolfe’s videos, profanity aside, any movie over and fan of this site should check them out over at Cinemassacre.

I need to check out Reptilicus, how many Danish monster films are there? (I think just one)

Oh man. If you haven’t seen Reptilicus, get some friends and rectify that pronto.

Naturally I think Godzilla should’ve been #1, but I have to admit his choice led to some laughs. I should’ve guessed, the way Mr. Begg set up the ending there.

Any chance of Giant Claw at T-Fest? I’d love to see that in a crowd. I wouldn’t mind seeing Beast from 20,000 Fathoms either, but seeing an actual good movie there would seem…wrong somehow.

  • Obviuosly every kaiju fan is going to include a different list of 10 monsters. My own criticisms were that it needed TARANTULA! and that the Kraken is a sucky, personality-less Harryhausen mob – Talos or the Cyclops IMO were way better. But of course if we don’t like his list, we should do our own.

THE GIANT CLAW was, in fact, shown at the very first T-fest, and so far at least we khave tried to avoid repeat showings of feature films. I took THE GIANT CLAW to England last summer and forced a bunch of hapless British to sit through it. They thought it was spectacular.

I saw Reptilicus in 1962, when I was 6 years old, and it was the best thing I’d ever seen. It probably shaped my love of monsters as much as any other movie I’ve ever watched. So it worked for at least one viewer.

Curses, foiled again! You win this round, Petersen…I’ll just have to watch Giant Claw again in the comfort of my own home.

Hmmmm…was Reptilicus been shown at a T-Fest yet? (Of course, maybe I should be ignored…I’d be happy to run nothing but giant monster movies all day. I have a touch of the bias.)

I ended up being converted to kaiju thanks to Godzilla ’84, sadly enough. Well, actually, it went like this…

Love of dinosaurs–>ViewMaster Godzilla 3-disc set (because, hey, giant dinosaur)–>Godzilla cartoon–>Godzilla ’84. Once I saw the real Godzilla in all his city-stomping, radioactive glory…well, that was it. Fan for life.

Even despite the nightmare I had, due to those vivid scenes of the big G stomping on people…from their point of view.
