So did anyone get anything cool movie wise for Christmas?

I picked up the new Blu-Ray edition of ‘Babylon 5’.

The ‘Cushing Curiosities’ boxed set with five movies I’ve never heard of and the six surviving episodes of a BBC series with Cushing as Sherlock Holmes.

The Tod Slaughter boxed set that Ken recommended. I’ve seen one of the films but in a lousy public domain print. Looking forward to seeing them cleaned-up.

I ordered the Coffin Joe boxed set but it won’t be released until next year.

And the Jackie Chan collections I & II.

Plus my sister and brother-in-law got me the Blu-Ray of the last Indiana Jones film. Sooooo…. anyone out there want it???

I’ll take it, if you are offering.

  • Gamera977

Sure! I have no desire to watch ‘The Dial of Destiny’. If you want it, it’s yours!

My email is there on the list Ken sends out for the watch parties starting with gamera977. The rest is in the email so I don’t have to post it here.

So just shoot me an address by email and I’ll get it out to you. Probably won’t be till next week though.

  • I bought myself the Tod Slaughter collection too, enjoying so far and the extras are outstanding.

Jamie got me a Blu-ray of a pair of 1930s nudist films from Kino’s ‘Forbidden Fruit’ collection. I’m super amused by the fact that Kino has cleaned up and remastered all sorts of sh!##y exploitation flicks in partnership with the venerable Something Weird. Remember when Kino was the company that restored respectable old movies (particularly some of the silents that only existed in awful, damaged, public domain prints).

I had previously picked up their release of Mom and Dad, with all the educational content restored. The final reel of the men’s was like being back in the Army watching STD scare films in the 90s. This is not a good thing.

The fact that there’s a big enough market to justify the collection, (which runs at least 12 volumes now) and the production of extras as well, says there are a lot of folks pretending to be normies out there with secret crap movie fetishes, just saying.

It makes me happy that I am responsible to buying / selling at least half a dozen copies of the Todd Slaughter set. It’s really the sort of thing that I am very satisfied to support. Indicator might be my new favorite boutique Blu Ray company. I dream of the day when they decide–or Arrow, or Vinegar Syndrome, etc., but Indicator if I could pick one–to do a comprehensive Krimi set. That would be a dream come true.

I bought a bunch of Indicator blu rays recently when the Brit arm was having a three for 15 pounds sale–or about three blu rays for $18. At that price even paying $20 for shipping from across the pond made the total quite reasonable, and MOST of their blu rays were region free, and so will play on a normal player. (I did spring for the crazy looking Creatures that Time Forgot set which is locked, but I do have a region free player hid somewhere and I’m sure I’ll hook it up someday.)

So for $113 (including $26 shipping) I got spiffy blu ray editions with copious extras for the showing: Mad Magician, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, the previously mentioned Creatures that Time Forgot set, the hippy movie R.P.M.–Chad R, beware–Mysterious Island, Night of the Demon, It Came from Beneath the Sea, Berserk, 20 Million Miles to Earth, 13 Ghosts, and a second copy of the neato boxed set containing the first two El Santo movies. I figured for $16 it would be a good stocking stuffer when I need one. Anyway, as you can see, that’s a pretty good haul for just over a $100, even if most of the items just represented upgrades over my old DVD editions.

Jeff W also sent me an Amazon gift card (I sent him the Todd Slaughter set), which I will use to buy either the Irwin Allen Master of Disaster set or perhaps either the 3rd or 4th volume of Shout Factory’s Shaw Brothers Classics sets. Just waiting for one of them to get deeply discounted so I can maximize the gift card.
