Video of the Day (01/05/09)

Here’s a beastie I never thought to see again!

  • BeckoningChasm

Oh wow, that was great! I couldn’t see if they credited Toho, but yeah, it’s nice seeing…Guiron?…again.

  • fish eye no miko

    Aww, I want one!

  • The Rev. D.D.

That’s Guilala, aka The X From Outer Space. Guillon (aka Guiron) is the beastie from the Gamera movies whose head is a knife.

Anyway, I think that may be one of the greatest commercials of all time.

And I would TOTALLY adopt a li’l Guilala. Hopefully it wouldn’t set the cats on fire.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Also, it wouldn’t be Toho they’d have to credit, but Shochiku.

Sorry for the multi-posts, but this is my field of expertise and I have to take advantage when it comes up…

    Show off! :)

  • The Rev. D.D.

    “Show off!”

    That’s fair I suppose. :)

Anyway, does Ms. Kingsley know about this ad? Also, would anyone else pay to see her initial reaction to it? (I picture something similar to her reaction to The Arm in Severed Ties.)

  • Sandy Petersen

I get credit for showing Ken the movie. Yay me.

  • There was actually a recent movie starring this guy, although I’m not sure if it will ever pop up over here. You’d think Sci-Fi Channel would get it; how much worse can it be than their stuff?

  • The Rev. D.D.

“I get credit for showing Ken the movie. Yay me.”

Three huzzahs for Mr. Petersen then!

“There was actually a recent movie starring this guy, although I’m not sure if it will ever pop up over here.”

If everyone claps their hands and says, “We believe in Guilala!” it might come true.

    CLAP DAMN YOU!!

  • BeckoningChasm

I KNEW that C Minus in Giant Monsters 201 would come back to haunt me…

  • The Rev. D.D.

I actually saw this commercial on television last night about 10:30 CST. It was either Comedy Central or Cartoon Network (I think the former).

There are gonna be so many people in America saying, “What the hell is that thing?” Or, if they’re like the lady of the house, “Awww! It’s so cute! I want one! By the way, what the hell is that thing?” She’s one of the fortunate ones who has someone in her life that not only knows what the hell that thing is, but is more than willing to inflict the movie it’s from on her.

Well, maybe “fortunate” isn’t quite the right word…

  • Sandy Petersen

I AM CLAPPING AS HARD AS I CAN!

    PLEASE GUILALA COME COME COME.
