Monster of the Day #3412

I know I just gush about all of these, but seriously, dude, look at that. Is that Frazetta? The line work on the defendant especially reminds me of his work.

I think it looks a bit more like Joe Kubert, or someone a bit more workmanlike than Frazetta. Besides, 25 cents would have put this in the mid-late 70’s, and wasn’t he at his height then? He might have priced himself out of doing comic books by that time. But I don’t know, maybe it is Frazetta.

How much did you squeal over all these skellingtons, Ken?

And that is a well-drawn skelly. Honestly, I don’t blame you for gushing over these, they’re fantastic. Especially when you look at who draws modern American mainstream comics nowadays…

When I see things like this – and like the crowd of whoever-they-are at the end of “The Rise of Skywalker” – I can’t help but think what do these guys *do*? Do they go home at night to skeleton families and pets? “Hi honey, I’m home! What a tough day retributing justice on deserving humans.”

  • According to the DC Database, this cover is done by Nick Cardy. Who is Nick Cardy? No clue. Seems to have done a lot of work for DC, though.

That’s who I was thinking too — Kubert for the pencils (but definitely not Kubert on the inks).

  • Rock Baker

Off topic, but I just heard Treat Williams was killed in a motorcycle collision…

  • Ken_Begg

Or was i thinking Neal Adams? There’s a vampire story done for one of the Warren books that this reminded me of.

  • Ken_Begg

A lot! Whoever did draw this should have done a Ghost Rider comic.

  • Ken_Begg

It’s basically like how El Santo lives. He does normal stuff, but in his complete gear all the time, shirtless and with cape.

‘Yes, YOU are on trial Bob Smith for rude and bigoted comments to skelly-citizen Ted Green! Like gee Ted why don’t you eat a sandwich, you’re just skin and bones! Or I gotta bone to pick with you Ted!’
