Cons & Such

Here’s some stuff I’m aware of for later this year. Do you know any shows you’d like to add? Let me know.

I don’t know if we could get one of these going for this year, but I’d love to do a meet up at something like this one of these years. That Canton movie fest, for instance, looks great.

Sadly, we T-Festers have big plans for next year’s double anniversaries (Tween-Fest 15th anniversary; T-Fest 20th Anniversary). So I’m not sure 2024 will work either.

Or maybe NONE of you have interest in this sort of thing. Let me know that, too.

They all look cool but extended travel is kind of out of my budget these days.

  • I’m going to have to find away to be at the T-fests next year. The single one I’ve been to was great and I’m sure these will be great as well.

Well, I keep saying hit Wonderfest in Louisville KY one year. It’s a big SF/Fantasy/Horror model con. Lots of spacecraft models and horror movie figure kits. But it’s a seven hour drive for me and I keep forgetting about it till just before the show. Only three weeks to go this year, in 2024 I’m going to remember and get registered ahead of time!

And yeah I gotta hit G or T-Fest one year, again I keep putting it off…

  • I’ve been dying to go to Monster Bash, I have con friends that are there every year. It also a very reasonable drive for me. Unfortunately I’m already committed for the June dates and I’m out of town in October, so this year won’t work. But would love to do a meetup there.

I’ve been to Wonder Con! I have a friend who’s a pro model builder, mostly Universal and Godzilla and Harryhausen stuff. The Con mostly revolves around models and model building, with a sideline in movie panels and such. LOTS of cool merch.

Anyone who ever wants to come in for G-Fest, it’s right by my house, and I’d be glad to put people up. At least you could save money on a room and car rental.

I could easily fly out to Pittsburgh one of these years (or maybe to Richmond and drive in with you and J?). We’ll see if we can’t make that work at some point.

  • That would be awesome!

There was a time at the library when a few friends of mine every year talked about going to this. For a good five years in a row I would reserve rooms about a year in advance, and than cancel them shortly before the con because we could never make it work. I didn’t feel bad because there was always a reservation wait list, so I knew some lucky person was getting the rooms unexpectedly.

That would be utterly fantastic, although next year’s 20th anniversary T-Fest will involve a cruise.

  • A cruise. That might make it difficult.

  • Gamera977

Oh wow, I’ve never been on a cruise before. It sounds kinda cool, salt air, ocean, eating way too much rich foods but I wasn’t totally convinced.

Add awful movies to the mix and my interest is piqued though!!!

The Drauts and the Bergmans, veteran yearly cruisers, are handling the planning, but it looks to be a four day, warm weather port (probably Mexico) cruise leaving out of Galveston, TX.
