Monster of the Day #3328

Man, love these old comic covers. Of course, I tend to focus on the skeleton ones because, you know, I love skeletons. This is one of those fun ones where the artist just keeps tossing in more ‘creepy’ elements. Good stuff.

  • Beckoning Chasm

“You know, maybe the real skeletons were inside us all along.”

  • KeithB

What could that poor bat (or whatever it is) have done to deserve getting chained like that?

  • Beckoning Chasm

When the Wicked Witch of the West ordered him into battle, he said “Nuts to you.”

  • KeithB

This certainly looks like a “Honeymoon of Horror”.

  • Gamera977

I wonder if Red Jenkin there chewed up Keziah’s favorite pair of stocking…

  • Gamera977

Mister tall, green, and gruesome in the front has some really meaty arms and hands for a skelly. I’m guessing the skull face is a mask? And weird way to have the gargoyle thingee bound to his upper arm like that.
And what is the chain attached to in the front and back? Other than the handcuffs on the brunette I can’t see where they’re coming from or going. I’m guessing the elderly guy in the back is handcuffed too? But green guy in the front has his hands full with the lantern and the staff and doesn’t seem to be holding the chain at all.

As Ken said it looks like the artist just kept shoving more and more creepy elements in as long as he had room.

  • Eric Hinkle

I love these gonzo Golden Age covers. So many of them look like they were designed by a wildly enthusiastic twelve-year-old. But I gotta say, they aren’t boring.
