Monster of the Day #3235

We haven’t checked in with Amazon Prime for a while. Vincent Price, except for Dr. Phibes, didn’t really do monster movies much. He and Corman’s Poe films didn’t have any–although Corman convinced AIP that “the house is the monster” when he pitched House of Usher to them. The one *cough* Poe film that has monsters is The Haunted Palace, because, of course, it’s actually a Lovecraft film. Anyway, it’s on Prime, check it out.

Not a monster in the sense we’d talk about here, but Vincent Price was scary as hell in “The Conqueror Worm.”

Creepy little film. Just watched it last weekend.

It’s one of my favorite of Corman’s ‘Poe’ movies.

I guess that as a big fan of Poe Lovecraft would be less annoyed than if his work work were attributed to some other authors. Seems he really disliked Seabury Quinn who he dismissed as too much the commercial writer.

Hard to see Lovecraft as tetchy, but….
