Monster of the Day #3426

So Thursday evening (7:00 CST) features the first Godzilla movie, then 9:00 features MY first Godzilla movie. Yes, it’s the one that started it all for the young Ken. Love this movie.

I really love the ones with Mothra except the first one is really odd in parts.

It is a fun movie. From the dance-off, to the shipwreck, to the island and the monster mash! Always something exciting going on.

Well, I finally got around to watching the last movie on my 8 DVD El Santo collection- ‘Santo & Mantequilla in the Revenge of La Llorona’.

Interesting film and the third La Llorona film I’ve watched this month. You think the poor gal would be all tired out- she’s over three hundred years old ya know.

This one had a bunch of gangsters in it too. Because Santo and Mantequilla the Cuban boxer wouldn’t punch out a woman. Even if she’s an evil ghost.

I looked it up- Santo did 51 movies. I’ve seen a few outside this collection. So it’s about 38 or so films left to go.

  • Like most everyone I watched the Showa Godzillas out of order, and this one was near the end of the list. Only the REALLY BAD ONES remained, like (in order of viewing) vs. Megalon, (ugh) Godzilla’s Revenge (ugh again!), and the rather okay vs. Gigan. By that point I’d seen all the truly great Godzilla pictures by that point.

Which is to set up the following statement: This is my favorite Godzilla sequel. It’s probably the second best Godzilla, tied with Son of. It’s a really fun flick. The only downside is that there was a very remote possibility that in its original form it might of had a King Kong/Mothra fight, and that’s something I would really, really like to see.

(The best Godzilla sequel? Mothra vs.)

Woah, where did you get all those El Santo DVDs? Are any still available with the seller?

  • Gamera977

It’s the ‘Santo: El Enmascarado De Plata’ boxed set. Forty bucks US on Deep Discount DVDs and Amazon.

Thanks, I’ll keep my eyes open for it. Are they done/dubbed in English as well as Spanish?

  • Gamera977

Unfortunately all the films are dubbed into English. Wish they’d offered an option of Spanish with English subtitles.
