Monster of the Day #3411

Speaking of films the poster tries to make look way more exciting then they are…

Off to Dallas tomorrow. Consider this an open thread until my return by Thursday next week. Have a great one, everybody. I look forward to seeing some of you this weekend.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Isn’t this one basically a cousin of The Lost Continent? Lots of traipsing with very little payoff.

  • KeithB

“Flaming Chimps” Dibs on the band name!

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

Arthur Franz, one of those great blue collar actors of the past.

  • Rock Baker

In the second issue of Cartoon Cuties, set in 1959, a couple of characters spot a flying saucer.

Daisy: “It’s a flying saucer! A real flying saucer! We’ve been invaded by Martians! Oh, I wish Arthur Franz was here!”

    Crissy: “I dunno… I really haven’t trusted him since I saw THE SNIPER…”

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

    Hah.
“The Sniper” that film is rich with good actors that play everyman, Gerald Mohr, Frank Faylen, Richard Kiley.

  • Ken_Begg

Also in that group, Curucu, Beast of the Amazon. And that one has an even MORE annoying twist.

  • Ken_Begg

Ha, that’s some good in-joking there!

  • Beckoning Chasm

I saw “Pin” last night. What an odd movie.

  • The Rev.

It is indeed. Hopefully you enjoyed it. I did despite Terry O’Quinn not being in it as much as I’d have liked.

  • Beckoning Chasm

“Enjoyed” might be the wrong word–I was very impressed by it. Well-made, well thought-out, good characters…and yeah, Terry O’Quinn is always good.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Watched the two late-80’s underwater threat movies–“Leviathan” and “Deepstar Six.” They’re both fun creature feature films with some good performances and some good effects. Peter Weller does great in the first and Miguel Ferrer is unforgetable in the second. And they were both way better than the film they were trying to mockbust, “The Abyss.”

  • Rock Baker

Doesn’t take much to top THE ABYSS. Any film that has remotely likeable characters has it beat, I think.

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

So you are not ready for the sequel “Son of Abyss”? ;-)

  • Ken_Begg

That’s a crossover in the 8th Avatar movie, now being filmed at a cost of $400 million.
