Monster of the Day #3365

You know you’ve picked a wrong  path in life when you’re watching Zardoz with a crowd for like the 6th time in your life. I don’t know what we did to piss off Julie and Tim, but between Heartbeeps and Zardox..yikes.

After that we again returned to Things Shown Before at B-Fest and watched To Catch a Yeti. I guess it’s not really a monster, but it was already the second purportedly “cute and lovable” kiddie character–I’m referencing the ‘baby’ robot from Heartbeeps–so my tolerance was low. Still, if you like Meat Loaf this surely has his largely part in a movie.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Meat Loaf had a fairly big role in Fight Club, didn’t he? Been a while since I’ve watched that.

  • The Rev.

I think this one was larger by dint of him being the main antagonist, but he did have a decent role in Fight Club, yes. That might be his second-biggest role.

  • I loathed this at B-Fest. A 15 minute short dragged out to 90.

  • Oh I wonder what’s going on at Jabootu, just going to open up the page and OH GOD KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT WITH A STICK USE FIRE FIRE NUKE IT FROM ORBIT JUST TO BE SURE OH MY GOD WHAT IS IT WHAT AIEEEEEE!!!!!

  • What I’m trying to say it that it’s hideous beyond words.

  • Gamera977

ACK!!! It’s more repulsive than the Slime People. And they probably smell better as well!

  • Gamera977

That reminds me however; Brian from Plaid Stallions had the LP soundtrack to ‘Yeti: Giant of the Twentieth Century’ on ‘5 Awesome Things on Ebay This Week’ a few weeks ago. I looked today on Ebay and it’s still posted, for only $120.00 US you get this amazing album including songs by the Yetians like ‘Funky Disco Sound!’

  • The Rev

This was quite awful indeed. Bless Meatloaf for giving more effort to this pile of crap than it deserved, but neither he nor the streak of surprisingly dark humor that popped up on occasion could save it.

  • thunderclancat

Zardoz is frustrating, it has some interesting ideas, but they’re all pissed away because the movie is so horrendously, frustratingly, awful.

  • thunderclancat

Pronouncing your lines correctly is more effort than TCAY deserves.

  • Ken_Begg

The only time I ever laughed at the Leonard Maltin review was when he (or his editors) wrote that Zardoz was made by people who thought ideas should be looked at but not touched.

  • Gamera977

Or as I describe it – ‘Zardoz is the story of a future society of immortals destroyed by Sean Connery’s manliness…’

  • thunderclancat

Do you know how many stars Maltin gave Zardoz? I used to have his movie guide but it got lost somewhere.

  • Eric Hinkle

Zardoz is so infamous I’ve actually seen My Little Pony art referencing it. The art is usually more entertaining than the actual movie, too.

  • Ken_Begg

Man, that was a long time ago. But I’d say one star or two stars at best. It was not a glowing review.
