Monster of the Day #3332

I wouldn’t show Beastmaster for a Watch Party because a) it’s a bit too good (or rather, cheesy but not QUITE cheesy enough), and more important b) it’s too long, running about two hours. Still, it’s a quintessential piece of ’80s fantasy action. Available for your viewing pleasure on Amazon Prime right now.

Too bad LadyHawke is 2 hours long, that would be a good one.

Oh, now this is one of my childhood favorites! I loved the ferrets, the obviously painted tiger, and bird-men dissolvers. And don’t forget the spiky berserkers! I don’t know, this seems like plenty cheesy enough for a watch party. Yes, maybe of “higher” “quality” than some, but certainly very entertaining.

  • HBO = “Hey, Beastmaster’s On!”

  • Gamera977

Yeah, biggest thing I remember about this is the MSTK3 running joke about ‘Beastmaster’s On!’. It did seem like TNT ran this thing every friggin’ weekend too.

I always liked ‘LadyHawke’- not sure I’d call it an actual good movie but I’d not call it a bad one IMHO. Only thing I really hated about it was the awful musical score- always sounds more like a cop show than a fantasy epic to me.

    Kodo and Podo!

    and Rip Torn! boo

  • bgbear_rnh

and a very merry Beatmaster Christmas hosted by Marc himself.

  • KeithB

Sure did not do well at the Box office.

  • Ken_Begg

It hits a sweet spot for me. Michelle Pfieffer is STUNNINGLY attractive in that movie. Perfectly cast as a fantasy heroine. The curse is quite elegant.

  • Ken_Begg

I wouldn’t rule it out, because it’s so beloved, but I’d have to survey folks to see who would be up for a movie that long. My inclination is to stay in the 90 minute range, though.

  • KeithB

Don’t get me wrong, Matthew Broderick is hilarious. I really liked the movie.

  • TBS – The Beastmaster Station.

    HBO -H.O.T.S. and Beastmaster only.

  • Ken_Begg

    Danny Bonaduce’s best movie!

  • Gamera977

Ahhhhhh, so it was TBS, I was thinking TNT… whoops…

  • Gamera977

Two hours is fine by me if you’ll excuse me to step out to get something to eat, go to the little turtle’s room etc. I’ll agree that about 90 minutes is a better choice overall though.

  • Ken_Begg

I’ll bear it in mind, thanks!
