Monster of the Day #3329

I probably did this one recently, but I can’t remember if I featured it as MotD of if it was just mentioned in notes. Anyway, no harm done if it’s a recent repeat. It’s on Amazon Prime for those who want to take a look. And in case it’s a repeat here’s a really neat candid photo of them working the monster puppet.

It’s an awesome movie. I’m surprised it took this long for someone to think of when using a puppet monster to use puppets for the human cast too.

  • The Rev.

I don’t remember if I hyped this up in your comments or during a movie night, but I really enjoyed this. It should still be free on Prime, where it contains the short film and a great behind-the-scenes/history of its production, all of which combined is just over an hour and well worth that time. I absolutely love the monster design. It’s like a dinosaur who became a minor nature deity, which seems right at home with the whole yokai pantheon.

  • Given that there are over 3,300 MotD’s, (M’sotD?) we can forgive you an occasional duplication.

  • Beckoning Chasm

That’s a nice-looking puppet/suit. I think I recall the discussion here, but I’ve forgotten the name of the film.

  • Rock Baker

    What is it?

  • Ken_Begg

Oops, sorry, it’s Howl from Beyond the Fog

  • Rock Baker

New one on me. I’ll have to ask my brother if he’s heard of it. He’s a bit more versed in newer movies than I am.

  • Eric Hinkle

Okay, what movie is it? It looks Japanese by the small torii in the first photo.

  • Ken_Begg

It’s a little (I think) Chinese short movie. I think it’s just kind of gotten out there by dint of being on Amazon Prime.

  • The Rev.

I don’t want to be pedantic, but that’s what we do here, right? It is Japanese.

I honestly don’t remember where I heard of it, but I want to say a livestream or a podcast. As soon as I heard “new kaiju movie” I immediately started looking for it and found it on Amazon Prime (where it’s still available as of today).

  • Gamera977

It’s as Ken stated below ‘The Howl From Beyond the Fog’.

  • Gamera977

Yeah Ken’s knowledge of bad movies is almost godlike (possibly only exceeded by Sandy) but I can excuse a slip-up every now and again.

  • Ken_Begg

    Nope, corrections always appreciated.

  • Eric Hinkle

Thanks, just put it on my ‘to watch’ Prime list.
