Monster of the Day #3325

Lugosi’s Dracula was so iconic–despite appearing on screen only twice–that until recently every other screen interpretation was set against his. Only Christopher Lee came close to stealing his crown. By the ’70s, though, the old Lugosi-style Dracula had become so familiar that he began to be reinterpreted as safe and lovable for kids.

I love the Count! One! Two! Three! Monsters of the Day.

  • In a strange way, Count von Count was an accurate depiction! In some cultures, vampires have an obsessive-compulsive thing that forces them to count stuff. So you can delay them by dumping a pile of beans in their way…

  • Beckoning Chasm

Yeah, there was an episode of “The X-Files” that used that trope.

One of the few bits I still recall from seeing the show as a kid had the Count delighting in counting the number of rain drops during a storm. He had to leave for some reason and left Fozzy to keep count for him. Fozzy collected the rain in buckets so the Count could count them out when he got back. The Count wasn’t pleased.

    Lightning Flash!!

  • Ken_Begg

Exactly! The only time I’ve seen it used. I was pretty delighted.

  • Ken_Begg

Ha, that’s great. Fozzy Bear, the Ken Begg of the Muppets.

  • Count Von Count: Count Fluffula’s mortal enemy.

    and Count Blah’s

  • Gamera977

Seems to be a pretty common trope around the world. With the Split-Mouthed Woman in Japan it’s said you can escape by throwing down your spare change or pieces of hard candy.

I’m claiming the Great Gonzo for myself…

  • Beckoning Chasm

Heck, we’ll throw in the Great Gazoo for free.

Count Von Count is a better vampire than Edward from Twilight.
