Monster of the Day #3228

Oops, I have to either put more thought into this the night before, or get up earlier. Anyway, no plans, so back to Super Inframan. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I think I’ve seen those two in a Brandon Tenold review.

  • KeithB

You are falling down on the job, Ken. You are supposed to end with “Quick, Henry, the Flit!”.

  • The Rev.

He reviewed this movie, so probably.

I’m probably going to have to rewatch it this weekend now.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, no Flit joke, what’s the world coming too!?!

  • Gamera977

I watched the Shaw Brothers ‘The Oily Maniac’ 1976 last weekend. I was thinking the titular Oily Maniac, a guy that gets transformed into a humanoid oil slick by an ancient Thai curse and takes revenge on his foes (what else?) would make a pretty good MotD.

  • To me, it looks more like a crab/lobster than an insect. Some Old Bay seasoning is preferable.

  • Ken_Begg

It’s still on Amazon Prime, as far as I know.

  • Ken_Begg

Yeah, I always think crab, although the arms and eyes suggests you’re right.

  • zombiewhacker

Ken, if you haven’t covered Space: 1999 yet, that might be a potential treasure trove for next week’s MOTD choices. Christopher Lee as a funky looking alien in “Earthbound.” Peter Cushing as an even funkier looking alien in “Missing Link.” And, of course, “Dragons Domain” (enough said). Right now I believe the complete series is free to stream (with commercials) on Amazon Prime.

  • Ken_Begg

    Suggestions always appreciated!

  • Eric Hinkle

A human oil slick? Sounds like a much goofier version of the H-Man.

  • June might be a good for a couple new(ish) MotD. Godzilla Singular point comes out, and they’ve got a wee beastie or three.

  • Gamera977

    I was thinking spider monster.

  • Gamera977

Yeap, I was thinking about the ‘H-Man’ during it. It’s on Amazon Prime, and it’s less than an hour and half long.
I’d say an oil slick, he douses himself with oil to transform. Doesn’t seem to matter what type, he uses motor oil from a service station. coconut oil, I figure even canola oil would work for a more healthy Oily Maniac.
Small spoiler: I did feel kinda cheated when he chases the car of one villain. I figured he’d turn into an oil slick and cause the guys car to crash but instead he waits till the guy parks and then jumps him. They probably didn’t have the budget to wreck the car.

  • Gamera977

I had to look back, Ken did feature the aliens from ‘The Bringers of Wonders’, two of the critters Maya shapeshifts into, and sorta the critter from ‘Dragon’s Domain.

Just watched the entire series a month or so ago on Amazon Prime myself.

  • Gamera977

And ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ on Blu-Ray June the 15th!!!

  • Eric Hinkle

I’ll see if I can find that one. Thanks.

EDIT: Looking at the page for it on Prime right now and I love the line ‘based on a true story’. Okay, I want to know what happened there! XD

  • Beckoning Chasm

The three eyes make me think of the Martian from “Angry Red Planet.”

  • KeithB

“Didn’t mom tell you to stay away from the power lines?!”

  • zombiewhacker

Thanks for checking. It’s sometimes hard tracking down past MOTDs on the site.

  • The Rev.

I always assumed “spider” since it spits web cages to entrap people. Some kinda weird prehistoric spider, since Princess Dragon Mom and her cronies are all ancient beasties awakened from slumber.
