    A bit OT but has anyone else heard about Amazon’s great idea for how to ‘do’ their Tolkien/LoTR adaptation? Basically the plan is ‘just like Game of Thrones, but more so’.

    I really hope the people who told me this heard them wrong.

    Yeah, it sounds pretty ghastly. I mean didn’t Martin say ‘The Song of Ice and Fire’ was an intentional deconstruction of Tolkien?

    Until the last several seasons, when the TV adaptation turned into a (unintentional?) deconstruction of George R. R. Martin. I just don’t know who these Hollywood studios think their audience is. How many viewers did the Lord of the Rings movies have compared to Game of Thrones? So which one should you emulate?

    I’ve also heard that the Tolkien series will have sex scenes put into it. Because that’s one of the ‘weaknesses’ of the original work that needs ‘correcting’.

  • Yes, she replaced Charlotte Ray on the Facts of Life as the older mother figure to the girls (admittedly adult women by that point) and took in a young Mackenzie Astin when they needed to add back some kid appeal to the show. Pretend I don’t know this, ok?
