Yeah, I got that email too. It’d be nice to go, since some of those 43 (!) films are things I’d like to see.

  • I’d be interested in seeing nearly any of those in a theater. Sadly, I think my travel budget for the year will be killed by then.

  • Jay

Argh! When will they ever have one of these in Southern California!

  • ericb

    or NY

  • Or anywhere in the mid-Atlantic? (Hey, we DO have NYC and DC within driving distance, it isn’t like we are the hinterland or anything.)

  • Well, I guess we don’t get the fests because we have a few theaters that very rarely show B-movies on their own (eg. The Charles in Baltimore when they aren’t too busy showing bad art flicks, or the occasional good import).

And we get John Waters’ premiers in Baltimore, though that is becoming less and less interesting as time goes on. (And what on earth inspired them to make a film of the musical of the film Hairspray?)

LSD on TCM tonight Friday/Saturday 07/11/08

    Skidoo -Otto Preminger!

    The Love-Ins

  • Roger– If history is any guide, Love-Ins will be more authentically funny by far because it is meant to be serious. I should note, though, that Skidoo is an absolutely appalling spectacle, and thus mesmerizing in a trainwreck sort of fashion.

Sadly, I looked a few months ahead and it looks like TCM is dropping the Friday night cult movie slot at some point. I have absolutely no reason why. Did it actually hurt their rating in the Friday 3:00 AM slot?

No doubt that the truly worst films are bad/unfunny comedies.

I don’t know how long you have had TCM on your cable/satellite system but, I recall a hiatus last year. I do not know if it has to do with Summer scheduling or something.

If it is gone, it is back to Netflix mining for il buono, il brutto, il cattivo.

  • BeckoningChasm

“Skiddoo” is a jaw-dropper of epic proportions. It’s terribly unfunny and dull, wastes a lot of talented folks, and has hippies in it. But you just can’t believe what you’re seeing.

It’d be nice to have a B-fest type thing near where I live, but there’s too many (real life) hippies to make it worth anyone’s while.

  • There was one period where they showed Skidoo at B-Fest like three years in a row. By the third time I was about ready to kill myself.

  • DamonD

That is one awesome line-up…a good dozen of those are films I genuinely rate, and about another dozen are those so-bad-they’re-good flicks.

  • The Rev. D.D.

If I thought I could find enough people in the Dallas area to do it, I’d try to organize an excursion up there for this. Sounds like it’d be a blast.

  • DD — Hmm, if only there was some event at which you could meet fellow, like-minded people from the Dallas area…

  • The Rev. D.D.

(Arch Hall Jr.)You’re funny, Mr. Begg. REEEEEAL funny.(/Arch Hall Jr.)

I would just like to make a trek up to this particular event, and other people splitting the cost would be about the only way I could swing it I think.
    Oh well, if I don’t make it I don’t.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand now the relevance of your post sinks in. After I’ve made that last one, which makes me look like a brainless goon.
I can’t even blame the blazing sun for heatstroke ’cause today it’s actually overcast for a change.
    *sigh*
I guess this is just a “duh” moment for me. Oh the shame and ignomity…

  • No prob, Rev. See you–OMG–in just over a week, I hope.

  • The Rev. D.D.

I hope so too! I’m really lookin’ forward to it!
