Rock Baker taking commissions…

In case anyone didn’t see his note, FoJ is taking commissions for custom artwork.  Rock is an expert illustrator/cartoonish, specializing, I would say, in good girl art. Rock, please correct me if I’m wrong. Rock has done some tremendous Jabootu-ish art referencing bad movies, so that’s another area to think about.

Speaking of good girl art, Rock, could you do something like this short of Captain Marvel from a new, real Marvel comic book out this month?

Anyway, I would think a piece of original art would make a dynamite Christmas gift.

Well, I do need another modeling badge for 2021. It’s not much I’m afraid but it is a little. I’ll contact you soon about it Rock.

  • Rock Baker

    Thanks, Ken!

You mean THAT’s something that was printed in an official major comic book release? I’m not sure what I find more disturbing, the uneven eyes or the pig nose…

  • What..the…hell!…is.. that.. THING!

Well, not the thing, he’d be more conventionally attractive.

    seriously!

  • Gamera977

I just watched Ethan van Sciver’s video on that comic. The rest of the art in it isn’t much better.

Rock draws about a zillion times better. Heck, even I could do better artwork than that!

How much do Marvel comics cost right now? I’m just wondering what people are exected to pay for — that.

  • Marden

That “art” is terrible, it doesn’t even look human, reminds me of that one muppet monster.

Good luck Rock! I don’t have any jobs for you currently but if I do, you’d be the first one I’ll contact.

    Too much!

I know it’s inspiring to see a strong woman who isn’t designed purely to attract the male gaze. Women packed with grrrrl power flock to this sort of enlightened fare. It’s why comic book sales are gangbusters right now.

Believe it or not, a shot with the hairline makes it looks worse. I couldn’t find one, but she’s basically drawn with no hairline and her thin layer of hair on top looks…not great.

  • Beckoning Chasm

To quote Harry Plinkett, “What’s wrong with your faaaace?”

  • Ken_Begg

I saw $5.00 for a digital copy. Ebay has $5.00 prices, but you have to pay for S&H. I’m pretty sure comic book stores are closed in most locations, and are dying anyway. (I wonder why.)

  • Ya know, I’m not the girliest girl who ever girled, but I at least try to look like a human being each day. I feel like that is the bare minimum femininity we should aspire to. This fails at even that pathetic standard.

And I am capable of cleaning up pretty good, I just usually can’t be bothered. Things to do, people to see, naps to nap.

  • Actually it just makes me mad. It’s saying that the only way to succeed as a woman is to be a man, which is pretty fucking regressive and is a cause of a lot of social pathology right now.

  • Eric Hinkle

Feels like feminism has gone a complete 180?

  • Eric Hinkle

The prices are a big part. Some of the nastier people I’ve met in them are another reason. Really merchants, letting someone rant abuse at other customers without stopping them does not make people want to return to your store.

  • Between that and the un-personing of every woman that was successful before the year 2000 so that these infants can insist they got firsties, ‘feminism’ has become way more toxic than the ‘patriarchy’ ever was. But what do I know, I’ve been reliably informed by member of the sisterhood that I’m not a ‘real woman’ because I’m not adequately opressed.

I might have a soapbox or two I could sell you, if you’re interested.

  • I was going to make a post to the effect of “I don’t know what you guys are talking about; that looks just like Brie Larson”, but decided that was a bit too mean.

    Maybe.

I dunno. I’ve never met Larson. Maybe it was just mean enough.

  • zombiewhacker

Seriously, Valhallen from Dexter’s Laboratory was girlier than that. And Valhallen was a he.

  • Eric Hinkle

Anyone else hear this news? “21 Jump Street Directors and Channing Tatum Developing Universal Monsters Movie”

Maybe it’ll be good. We can hope.

    Can’t we?

  • The Rev.

Not only do we have that incredible art for the comic, but the stories are spectacular, original ones: Men Bad, White Men Bad, and Did We Mention White Men Bad.

No, I didn’t pay a dime for that garbage to discover this. I let Ya Boi Zack do the heavy lifting for my entertainment.

I know we talk about the ham-handed sermons like they’re something new, but having look at collections of older material from the 60s-80’s, they were around back then as well. Though the non-sermons parts seem to have been better written. Or was it just that when comics cost 50 cents or less, we just didn’t care?
