Monster of the Day #3128

I’m sure everyone’s seen it, but The Last Man on Earth stars Vincent Price, is one of several thematic precursors to Night of the Living Dead, and although it’s not perfect by many means, remains the best screen adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novel I Am Legend. Anyway, it’s available with several other fun movies on the Feature Film channel.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Romero openly admitted that he got the idea for Night of the Living Dead from “I Am Legend” the novella, but after viewing the Price adaptation one cannot help but wonder whether Romero was taking notes there, too.

Then there’s the mass atomic zombie attack from the end of _Creature With the Atom Brain_.

There’s a lot of “Shoot them in the head” in that one, ’cause the remote controls are there.

I count myself quite lucky that I have this one on a DVD collection of various horror films. It and ‘Snowbeast’ are probably the only ones on it worth watching.

You would think that TLMOE, being public domain, would be free on Amazon Prime, but last time I checked, nope.

A number of movies included with Prime that would have been perfect for this past Halloween season got yanked last minute: Dog Soldiers and Shock Waves chief among them. Bummer.

    “DO YOU HEAR, MORGAN?
    DO YOU HEAR?
WE’RE GOING TO KILL YOU MORGAN!
    DO YOU HEAR?”

Actually, “Last Man on Earth” is the first filming of Matheson’s “I Am Legend”, and is somewhat accurate to the original. (Much more so than “Omega Man” and the recent version.)
