Let’s see what people got through the site from Amazon in July. Don’t worry, except when people fess up, I don’t know who bought what. I appreciate everyone using the links, especially after last month when we were down for over two weeks and I lost…well, OK, like $10 or $20. Still. Luckily we didn’t go down again in June, so hopefully it was just a fluke.
By the way, I can’t imagine why anyone would object to such a post, but let me know if you do. I just find demographic info kind of interesting, and like seeing what people are buying, that’s all.
The big ticket item this month was a flip video phone, which ran about a hundred smackers. Other mysterious (to me) tech doohickies purchased included a flash card and a bundle of DVDrs. I assume Roger bought those to keep up with all the movies I’ve been making him record for me off of TCM.
Somebody bought a Flight of the Concordes download. Funny show.
I’m almost as bad with music as tech–meaning I know nothing, nothing–but let’s see, CDs bought include a Doctor Who sound effects jobbie, and albums from Jethro Tull (their Christmas album!), REM (2), Death Cab for Cutie, Rush (2), Offspring, and an item called Catch the Rainbow: the Anthology, which I assume features the background music from Skittles commercials. Also a Coldplay album which has naked breasts on the cover.
Books. Eric admitted he’s the one buying the World War One / 30 Year War stuff, which is cool reading, I’m sure. I’m awful with maps, though, so the WWI Atlas wouldn’t do me much good. Somebody at work here bought the hilariously posh Wacky Packages book, which reprints those goofy spoof product stickers from when we were kids on amazingly good paper. Somebody reading above my (intellectual) weight purchased Origins: The Evolution of Continents, Oceans and Life, as well as Titan Unveiled: Saturn’s Mysterious Moon Explored.
Comics related tomes (people who like comics like bad movies, I guess) included a couple more copies of I Shall Destroy All Civilized Planets, which is the greatest book ever, and a few copies of nostalgia porn Fred Hembeck Omnibus (got that one myself). Also a copy of the Essential Rampaging Hulk, which cheaply collects all the issues of the really great black and white Hulk magazine that did stories with the old, surly Hulk and showed his first meetings with the early ’60s versions of the X-Men, Namor, a pre-Avengers Avengers, etc. Great stuff. Sadly, they didn’t include the Bloodstone backup feature. Maybe Bloodstone will get his own Essentials book someday. Finally, there was a copy of Scott McCloud’s seminal Understanding Comics.
Oddly, again, no film books. I’m not sure we’ve ever sold a book on movies. I mean, we probably have at some point, but nothing I recall.
Then the heart of the matter, movies. 1 copy of 10,000 BC, the awesome vintage trailer complilation 42nd Street Forever Vol 1, three first season sets of Alfred Hitchcock, two of the third season, and one set of the 2nd season. Allain Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold as well as King Solomon’s Mines (Chamberlain). Atomic Age Classics: Vol 4, VD (hope everything’s OK there). Audition. Video compilitions by Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple. A copy of both Bender’s Big Score and Beast With a Billion Backs. Looney Tunes Golden Collections 1 & 2 (great stuff!). Sardu’s Patton Blue-Ray disc. The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection. 2 copies of the second Three Stooges Collection. And finally, the blaxploitation flick Willie Dynamite. Very cool.
Thanks again, everybody. I sincerely hope you all enjoy your times, and keep watching the skies. Well, clicking the links.
Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I cleared about $60 bucks. Thanks again!
