Monster of the Day #3018

Yesterday’s featured MotD, Fiend Without a Face, is not the only atmospheric British film that ends with the reveal of an awesome, tentacled brain monster. I’ve always loved the hinted-at backstory that suggests Forrest Tucker has troubleshooted alien invasions in the past. And of course it was featured on MST3K. The Crawling Eye, aka The Trollenberg Terror, can be viewed for free on YouTube.

Yeah, this one is another fun one. I think the “hinted backstory” was meant to be Cosmic Monsters, wasn’t it? I know he had a different character name, but I thought his job was similar (confession: it’s been years since I’ve seen it).

Let’s see, this film, Fiends, X the Unknown, Island of Terror, Day of the Triffids, the first two Quatermass films … atmospheric thrillers featuring weird slimy things was something the British were really good at.

OT: My boss brought in a small crate of bees today. He said they’re for his honeybee hive. I am having flashbacks to all those killer bee movies I watched as a kid…

    Help me!

    THERE IS NO BEE!!!!!!!!!

  • Though I’ve never seen it I suddenly have a Nicolas Cage/Wicker Man flashback here.

If you can watch it with friends it’d probably be okay (it was pretty fun at B-Fest), for a certain value of “okay.” Because, you know, it’s not really very good for the most part.

I’ve got ‘Color Out of Space’ on deck. It’s one of my favorite Lovecraft stories. I hope Cage doesn’t ruin it.

… while adhering to a tight budget, something Hollywood still hasn’t learned… and may *never* learn.

One of the best movies ever given the MST3K treatment, written by Hammer Film vet Jimmy Sangster IIRC.
