Monster of the Day #2076

Following Jason X we had a good long stretch of films that don’t concern us here–Blackbelt II, Mother May I Sleep with Danger (not the lesbian vampire one), Flash Gordon, Airborne. Then we got Wasp Woman, 63 minutes of black and white Roger Corman cheapie goodness.

“Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.”

I remember this one as fun. What I most remember, though, is that one of the secondary characters smokes a pipe, and keeps putting his LIT PIPE into his jacket pocket.

  • Rock Baker

A pipe has to be constantly puffed in order to keep it going. Stop puffing it and it goes out quickly. That’s why you see men constantly lighting and re-lighting their pipes. Storing them in the pocket isn’t unusual at all. My Grandpa was a pipe smoker. Today, I use his pipe caddy to house my pens at my desk.

Not a bad little B picture. Every print I’ve ever seen has been the one expanded for television (showing the bee farm at the beginning of the film). I’m not sure the shorter original version has been seen in the longest time.

I see what you did there!

  • Rock Baker

Actually, I didn’t! As a rule, I despise puns. My use of them is purely accident most of the time.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I did not know that! Still, it just seemed odd to me–to the point of distraction.

Good day sir! Torgo will see you to the door.

It makes me think of that Addams Family bit (on the TV show) where whenever Gomez would pull a cigar out of his pocket, or find one in an odd place (“Oh, I was looking for that!”) it would already be lit and he’d start smoking immediately. It was such a subtle thing that I loved from that show.

But the poster was SO MUCH BETTER…
