Monster of the Day #2018

Yikes! Running late for work. Have a great pre-Halloween weekend, everyone. Feel free to note what you’ll be watching / have watched this weekend.

  • We’re doing a “Bad Movies of 1994” theme for Hallowversary this year (It’s our 25th anniversary and we were married in ’94), so tonight will be On Deadly Ground, Bad Girls, and Street Fighter. Unfortunately Dinosaur Island appears to be caught in some sort of rights issue at the moment and I was not able to turn up a watchable copy for love nor money. It’s been pulled from Prime and all the Youtube versions are a mess. If I’d planned ahead I might have turned up a grey-market DVD,but I was woefully late figuring out an appropriate theme.

The rest of the weekend is going to be a wash as I am unexpectedly headed out of town.

I think the Jack O’ Lantern is running late too considering he/she forgot their lid…

As to what I’m watching this weekend it remains to be seen. I really don’t make plans anymore.

I recorded “The Gorgon” (Hammer) last night on TCM so that will probably get viewed. I do not recall ever seeing it.

  • bgbear_oso-delecto

We seem to have a black cabbbit friend of Ryo-Ohki today.

  • Gamera977

Interested to hear what you think of it. I thought it was a good solid movie but not one of their standouts.

  • bgbear_oso-delecto

I was just saying to the missus last night that Hammer is at least never boring.

  • It’s pretty good, if not up to Hammer’s best.

  • That jack’o’lantern looks scared to death.

  • Ericb

I’m guessing that only dogs can hear bats howl.

I did get a copy of ‘The Haunting’ on Blu-Ray. I’m intending to watch it Halloween night. I also read Shirley Jackson’s novel. Frankly I wasn’t all that impressed, it was okay but this is one of the few cases where I prefer the movie over the book.

  • Gamera977

I wish Christopher Lee had more screen time. Lots of Peter Cushing though!

  • bgbear_oso-delecto

Lee had a good thing going, top billing with little work. Cushing always does the heavy lifting.

  • Eric Hinkle

It’s a good Hammer movie. Not great but better than some of their later Dracula/Frankenstein films.

Except for ‘Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires’. Nothing can top that one!

  • Eric Hinkle

I have to admit that I liked the book, though not as much as the movie. One book scene from ‘Haunting’ that I wish could have made it into the movie was that weird one where Eleanor and Theo are waling through the garden. They see a happy family having a picnic and then something indescribable chases them through the garden and into the house. What was going on?

Dr. Montague’s ex-wife and her boyfriend were also fun in the book. They reminded me of way too many teachers I knew. I loathed them from the moment they opened their mouths and hoped the ghosts would get them.

  • Ken_Begg

I assume she was having a bad lid day.

  • Ken_Begg

Plague of the Zombies is the winner in that little rural pod of movies they made.

  • Gamera977

Oh gosh Montague’s ex-wife! Glad she got a much smaller role in the movie…
