Monster of the Day #1998

I guess Blade was the big movie that year, but I don’t know, despite trying so hard I never felt their takes on vampires were all that interesting. Decent action movies, though.

So I’ll go with Deep Rising, a pretty fun heist-movie-turns-into-a-monster-flick.

Yeah, this one was nice, though I was disappointed that there weren’t lots of “little” creatures. Still, I guess they wanted a Big Reveal and as you say, it’s a lot of fun.

Best kind of film, low expectation and being surprised. Much better than high hopes and big disappointment.

  • Mike Weller

All be it, sequel setup ending.

  • Rock Baker

Yeah, I’ve always enjoyed this one. Treat Williams should have been a much bigger star in general, but this one was a good showcase.

  • Wade Harrell

I remember watching this and thinking “hey that’s the guy from Hair!”

I still love the Blade movies (well, ok, the first two), but Deep Rising is an excellent flick, in the best sense of that word.

  • Eric Hinkle

My apologies if I already recommend this one. but if anyone here wondered about seeing ‘Curse of La Llorona’, I’ve seen it and I can say it’s an excellent film. No masterpiece but it has a great monster in La Llorona herself, and to my surprise a rather clean in speech script. Also has some good scares in it, though the ones involving kids might be a bit too much for parents.

It worked given the tone of the movie, though. It certainly didn’t run roughshod over the entire film like some we’ve discussed lately.

    Him and Tom Berringer.
