  • The Rev. D.D.

Oooo, Sugar Hill? I’ve been wanting to see that for years, ever since reading Dr. Freex’s review of it. Excellent news!

May 9th will be the night I’m glad I still have two VCRs so I can get all that…

  • ADAMBOMB 1701

“Five Came Back” was possibly the inspiration for the “Star Trek” episode “The Galileo Seven.”

As for Sinatra, his “Man and his Music” specials turn up. They haven’t been seen in forty or so years. Also, on May 21, the original “Ocean’s 11” will be run.

I’m going to agree with Ken on one film here, and disagree on another.

Like most Kubrick films, “Paths of Glory” is worth watching for the cinematography, set design and special effects alone. Kubrick was a genius with a camera, and most of the shots in this film are like very fine photographs.

“Stalag 17,” on the other hand, I feel is overrated. There is too much silly comedy, and one of the central plot devices always seems a little incredible to me. I like William Holden and the movie is certainly worth watching if you haven’t seen it, but I wouldn’t call it “great.”

  • Mitch: Thanks for posting.

First of all, NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO DISAGREE WITH ME!! GET OUT OF HERE, YOU SCUM!! I WILL KILL YOU IF I EVER SEE YOU!!!!

That said, you have a valid point. To clarify, I’d call Paths a great *film*, and Stalag a great *movie.” Certainly it’s a classic WWII flick, if only because it inspired Hogan’s Heroes.

  • Thanks, Ken. Friday the 16th looks like a winner. “Count Yorga, Vampire” has always been a bit underrated and “Fearless Vampire Killers” is always a hoot.

This Friday at 6 am, AMC is showing “The Atomic Submarine” as well as the first two Planet of the Apes movies and the original King Kong later in the day.

You seem to have missed “Rebecca”, one of the greatest films of all time imo. Certainly my favorite Hitchcock film, which is saying a lot. It’s based on the excellent novel of the same name by Daphne de Maurier, who also wrote “Jamaica Inn”.
