Monster of the Day #1914

This is easily the best of the lot (although the Krimi is great!). I showed this at T-Fest one year, and except for Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake, might have been the be received “modest little movie that everyone kinda loved.”

Crazy cast; Cameron Mitchell (starting the road from How to Marry a Millionaire to Nightmare in Wax or a hundred other crap titles), Anne Bancroft, Oscar winner Lee J. Cobb, Raymond Burr and Lee Marvin.

  • I love this little flick. I was lucky enough to get to see it in 3D when Count Gore de Vol showed it in the early 80s.

Saw this a long time ago, and seem to remember it was fairly good. Another name: Barney Slater, who wrote about half the episodes of “Lost in Space.” (Not including “The Great Vegetable Rebellion,” though.)

Ah, Raymond Burr’s other gorilla movie.

I’m assuming no gorillas appeared on Perry Mason…

  • Kirk

This one was pretty fun at T-fest. I actually beat The Rev. to a Simpsons joke.

This film stemmed from a fleetingly brief period in Cameron Mitchell’s career when he was a Hollywood leading man. That alone makes this a film curiosity worth seeking out. Mitchell actually wasn’t a bad actor at all. He simply had one of those “looks” that resulted in him being forever typecast as psychos and baddies.

Anne Bancroft and Lee Marvin have Oscars too.

  • Rock Baker

A lot like Raymond Burr, actually. Though he managed to escape such type casting by virtue of landing Perry Mason.

I remember this one. Saw it once, but it stuck in my mind. It’s pretty decent for a B-movie and has some clever twists.

BTW, if you want to see how low indie film-making can go, you have to check out the trailer for ‘Velocipastor’ on YouTube. It’s the story of a priest who can turn into a velociraptor, fights ninjas, and falls in love with a hooker. Oh, and he eats unrepentant sinners in confession. I swear I’m not making that up

Good point. I guess in a funny way Godzilla must have seemed like a breath of fresh air to him.

  • Ken_Begg

    Good point!

  • The Rev.

It is a sign of my eroding sanity that I really want to see that despite knowing it probably doesn’t live up to the description you’ve provided.

The film itself makes Sharknado look like the original Star Wars in comparison.
