Monster of the Day #1895

This week on “The Poster is Better than the Movie….”

  • Wonder if it got the full 3-D treatment on overseas release?

I think more effort went into that poster than the entirety of the 2nd through 4th pictures in the series.

Isn’t the evil house supposed to be front and center? I wonder if the look of the house just didn’t translate well to other cultures.

  • Eric Hinkle

Okay, it’s the Amityville Horror, but what country was this poster used in?

  • Gamera977

I’m guessing Thailand from yesterday’s MotD?

  • It’s more specifically “Amityville 3D”.

  • Eric Hinkle

Ah! Thank you. I should have recognized it by the demon(?) dragging the guy into a pool.

  • Eric Hinkle

I wonder if it ever ran in Hong Kong? Could have lead to a crossover where one of those wuxia demon-quelling sorcerers takes on the Amityville spooks. Hey, they did ‘Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires’.

No naked fat men this time, I’m happy to note.

I’m not sure what the general feelings are regrading this particular series. I saw the first three and found this one here the most entertaining (it given the advantage of a carny style thrill ride where anything was possible). The first was bland, the second stupid, but this one was fun. Now, if only seeing it in 3D were an option, because without it, it’s kinda pointless…

Moreso, that claw reaching out at us was one of the best poster images of the decade -and when I stop to think of it, the 80’s had a LOT of movie posters that highlighted claws!

One actor’s career headed downhill (Tony Roberts), another’s star on the rise (Meg Ryan).

The director, I believe, was either the son or the nephew of famed animator Max Fleischer.

Check out Crazy Safari. There used to be a copy on YouTube. Sandy Petersen showed it to us. It’s a honest to goodness crossover flick of The Gods Must Be Crazy and a hopping vampire flick. VERY weird.

  • Beckoning Chasm

He was the son, also responsible for Disney’s 20000 Leagues film.

  • Eric Hinkle

That sounds… yeah. It has to be seen to be believed.

B-Fest often has inadvertent unplanned themes where one weird element will keep reoccurring. The strongest such I recall was a year where we kept getting beefy, generally bald Tor Johnson-type guys running around naked or in towels. Eventually they showed Beneath the Planet of the Apes and there was a scene where Dr. Zaius was in a sauna, and I was like, “yep, it’s officially a theme now.”
