Monster of the Day #1896

I’m not sure how the Robinson family ended up at Latitude Zero.

  • Beckoning Chasm

The control panel on that space boat looks really weird.

I want bats with frickin lasers

  • Flangepart

All I can think is…’Is this Brontitall? And where is Arthur Dent?’

  • KeithB

Looks like someone will be able to collect on the General Products guarantee…

Is that laser going through the bubble and damaging something on the other side?

  • Upvote for the “Known Space” reference! One can discuss Niven’s writing foibles until the cows come home, but I would be OK spending the rest of my days in that universe.

  • Gamera977

The bat-people remind me of the Diamedians as portrayed in one cover from Poul Anderson’s ‘War of the Wing-men’ aka ‘The Man Who Counts’.

  • Eric Hinkle

My Lord someone else read that book! I love Anderson’s writing, and I wish SF had more heroic characters like that old rogue Van Rijn.

  • For some reason this is my favorite Lost in Space cover so far.

  • Gamera977

Lol, Anderson is my favorite SF writer. Picked up the whole Van Rijn/Flandry series from Baen a couple years ago and read all the stories in order. They’re definitely worth the investment. Always loved Van Rijn too, always thought if someone did a movie version John Rhys-Davies would be perfect!

  • Eric Hinkle

Rhys-Davies as Van Rijn? That would work perfectly.
