Monster of the Day #1865

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Back to work, but hey, New Years coming up. And then, before we know it, B-Fest. Yikes!

This one has Bernie Casey, but unfortunately the film isn’t as strong as Blacula, and he can’t do what William Marshall did there.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Are those wireframe towers actually in the film? They look kind of neat.

  • Ericb

To bad they didn’t go with Dr. Black and Mr. White.

  • BGBear_rnh babyit’scoldoutside

That is Watts Towers in LA an eccentric’s art project.

  • KeithB

Are they supposed to be Watt’s Towers in South Central Los Angeles? IF so, they are no where near that tall.

Just checked Wikipedia and they are indeed Watt’s Towers.

  • Rock Baker

That’s actually where the climax takes place.

Look at me Ma. Top of the world. Ok, well it only about 90 feet, but I can see the freeway and there is the mall .

  • Rock Baker

I’ve seen worse, but I’ve seen better too. Somewhat ludicrous that everybody who sees Hyde thinks he’s a white man, though.

  • Eric Hinkle

I imagine they felt it would be racist to show a murderous black man rampaging through the streets of Watts.

  • zombiewhacker

Bernie Casey, a good, underrated actor. As Mr. Hyde, he was maybe only so-so, but he made one heck of a gargoyle.

  • Still better than Blackenstein (I have watched paint drying with more interest than Blackenstein).

  • Ken_Begg

Wow, is that a limb you really want to go out on?

    (Sarcasm)

  • Someone once tried to insist to me that Abby was the worst Blaxsploitation horror movie ever, despite having *seen* Blackenstein. I’m not actually sure what you can do for someone suffering that degree of delusion.

  • Ken_Begg

I remember Sandy cackling with glee when I was inspired to incredulously yell “That’s retarded!” when he showed me Blackenstein for the first time.

  • Well, it *is* retarded, in pretty much every possible sense of that word.

  • Eric Hinkle

Just the title ‘Blackenstein’ makes me wonder if that film has a mad scientist shove a white man’s brain into a black man’s head.

  • Congratulations, you just wrote a more interesting plot than the writers did! Mostly the movie just commits the cardinal sin of being boring. Really really boring. And stupid but in totally uninteresting ways.
