Monster of the Day #1860

Typically, the French poster from yesterday went for a sex angle, while the Japanese poster doesn’t just stick with the more violence-themed American poster art, but ramps it up a bit.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Kind of gives away the ending, there.

  • Gamera977

Well, don’t about 75% of all vampire movies end that way? I’d guess it’s kinda expected.

  • Gamera977

Again it’s neither here or there but I heard a few weeks ago talk about doing a John Henry, The Steel-Driving Man movie with The Rock. Personally maybe it’s me but I think Marshall or Rosey Grier look way more how I’ve always pictured Henry.

    Woody Strode.

  • Gamera977

He’d be great. I think Carl Weathers could have worked too.

  • I’m actually picturing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the role of James “The Stainless Steel Rat” di Griz. Don’t know if anyone in Hollywood has picked up the option on Harrison’s novels, though.

    Ken Gampu.

  • Beckoning Chasm

True, but you still want to try and keep some suspense for the audience. Imagine a “Psycho” poster highlighting Norman as Mrs. Bates.

  • BGBear_rnh babyit’scoldoutside

akshually some of the “Psycho” re-release posters did IIRC.

  • KeithB

They have to go a long way to beat the “American Legends” Disney version introduced by James Earl Jones with Alfre Woodard and Tim Hodge.

  • Ken_Begg

Actually, that’s not the ending, so it’s a good misdirect.

  • Ken_Begg

I’ll second Woody Strode. This isn’t exactly original, but Fred Williamson would have been perfect as ’70s blaxploitation Luke Cage.

  • Gamera977

I swear I remember a cartoon version of the story that aired on ‘The Wonderful World of Disney’ back in the late ’70s – early ’80s too.

  • KeithB

I am sure I saw a claymation version – not Disney – at one time, but my google foo failed to find it.

  • Eric Hinkle

II just hope they make it good and don’t turn John into a joke. I loved the John Henry legend as a boy.

Hay, maybe if it does well enough they’ll make a Joe Magarac movie next!

  • Eric Hinkle

I remember seeing a very stylized animated version years ago as a boy.

  • Gamera977

I just vaguely remember it. I think it was animated and think it was on Disney but I’m not totally sure. I may be imagining the whole thing.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, well as the guys discussing it were hoping they don’t make some huge race thing out of it since it was mostly man vs. machine instead of man vs. man. As one guy pointed out Henry was the spiritual ancestor to John Conner!

  • KeithB

The Disney Legend from 2002 or so is highly stylized, 2D animation with the penciling left in.

  • Gamera977

I thought about the 2002 version but this one was around 1980 or so. I may have it mixed up with something else I saw back then.
