Monster of the Day #1807

A cheesy note added, but the poster (like the movie) is still quite classy.

  • They don’t come any better than this!

I’ve been watching this on TCM every Halloween for years. It’s one of those weird rituals I have like watching ‘King of Kings’ and ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ on Easter and ‘A Christmas Carol’ (George C. Scott version – my favorite so sue me) every Christmas.

This and The Others are my two favorite haunted house films.

Did Robert Wise must have hit every movie genre in his long career. Julie Andrews to William Shatner ;-)

As a kid all the haunted house films blended together. When I re-watched them later, I always expected the wrong thing to happen next.

    From Krupke to Klingons.

Man I love that skeletal hand. I wonder if anyone watching this in France felt cheated at the lack of killer skeletons as compared to ‘House on Haunted Hill’?

  • Ken_Begg

I doubt it. The Haunting is a masterpiece.

  • The George C. Scott version of “Carol” RULES!!!

And btw, doesn’t “A Christmas Carol” count as a ghost story? Perhaps we’ll see some of the ghosts as MotD in December?

  • Gamera977

Everyone seems to prefer the Alistair Sim version. Which is great, I just like the Scott version better.

And yeah, the Ghost of Christmas Future is creepy and I love Edward ‘The Equalizer’ Woodward made a fantastic Ghost of Christmas Present. Plus always nice to see David Warner in a non villain role.

  • Rodford Smith

    Magoo! :-)
