Monster of the Day #1733

We kicked around a lot of titles for our Texas movie finale, but Bats won.

Audience lost.

You know a movie is really something when you can’t remember if you’ve actually seen it, or owned the DVD. “Bats” is one such movie for me.

Is this the one with Lou Diamond Phillips? I recall it is at least entertaining.

  • Eric Hinkle

Is this the one where the mad scientist who made the bats does the ‘Come to your father, my children!’ bit, and the bats tear him apart?

  • Gamera977

Don’t know what people have against bats. Anything that eats mosquitoes is fine by me.

Hmmm, ‘Bats vs Manquito’ would make a pretty darn good film…

I have never lived around bats, but I assume they are in the “mostly harmless” category. I suppose the idea of a flying mammal sounds scary, but they are closer to Rocky Squirrel than Oz Monkeys.

As long as they don’t bite you and give you rabies, I guess they’re okay.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Apparently, criminals (and others of a superstitious cowardly lot) are terrified of them.

  • Wade Harrell

I’ve never seen Bats but I like this image, it reminds me of a mammalian version of the Zanti Misfits.

  • Gamera977

Seems Penguins are scared of them as well…

I have a friend who did some mission work down in Central America back in the 1980’s or so. Bats scare the daylights out of him, mostly because he saw how the locals handled cases of bat-bite-inflicted rabies
