Monster of the Day #1508

Third Halloween show, third Twilight Zone parody.

  • I never had a problem with clowns (save that one time) but dolls… Dolls can be super creepy super easy.

    So can knives, really.

  • KeithB

I’ve never seen it, but is it a parody of Twilight Zone (I assume the Agnes Moorhead one) or Trilogy of Terror?

  • bgbear_rnh

Maybe the TZ with Telly Savales and the talking doll.

  • bgbear_rnh

My favorite part was the customer service hold music, Gary Lewis and the Playboys: Everybody loves a clown, so why don’t you?

  • silverwheel

“Take this object, but beware, it carries a terrible curse.”
    “ooh, that’s bad.”
“But it comes with a free frogurt!”
    “That’s good!”
    “The frogurt is also cursed.”
    “That’s bad.”
“But you get your choice of topping!”
    “That’s good!”
    “The toppings contain potassium benzoate.”

    “That’s bad.”
    “Can I go now?”

  • Eric Hinkle

I mostly remember this one for the horrors that the poor(?) Krusty doll went through after he was fixed.

“Homer made me give him a sponge bath.” *shudders*

  • It’s from the “Trilogy of Terror” movie; the segment based on Richard Matheson’s story, “Prey”.

    The Zuni fetish doll…….

  • CaptNemo

“It slices, it dices…and it comes with a knife too.”

  • bgbear_rnh

That could never be made today.

  • zombiewhacker

Yeah, I always assumed this was a parody of the Talking Tina episode. And a great parody, too!

  • zombiewhacker

The first eight Simpsons Treehouse of Horror eps (seasons 2 thru 9) were comedy gold. The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents all got the send-up treatment… there was even an Omega Man parody! Sadly, slowly but surely, the TOH specials, like the show itself, slowly started going downhill after that.

  • Eric Hinkle

    Why not?

  • bgbear_rnh

Little murderous African guy? Do I need to elaborate?

  • Living Doll. The whole reason I can’t hear Rocky the Flying Squirrel without shivering.

  • The Rev.

Yeah. it’d have to be a, as the Offenderati put it, “little murderous cis white male.”

I think you could still have it made, but I’m sure a lot of whiny kids would complain, and everyone with any sense would ignore them.

  • Eric Hinkle

Well, the Zuni were American Indians from the Southwest, but I suppose that doesn’t make much difference.

  • bgbear_rnh

And now here is something you’ll really like. mwahaha

  • Brrr!

  • bgbear_rnh

True, but most people remember it as looking African. Til now I misremembered it as being Zulu.

  • Eric Hinkle

And thanks to that now I want to see someone make a movie where a pint-size Shaka doll with an assegai chases some white guy around his apartment.

  • The Rev.

Oh dammit, I miswrote that. I did mean Zulu. I haven’t been sleeping much the past couple of weeks, but still, mea culpa.

  • Do it as a comedy, where the figure wants revenge for all the sins of colonialism…..

  • Eric Hinkle

That would probably sell these days, especially with people who don’t know just HOW Shaka created the Zulu nation.
